Post Question About Ethanol

Just wanted to know if anyone has expierienced any significant changes to engine performance with an Ethanol fuel blend. In Missouri, the fuel I have been forced to use contains MTBE. With consistent driving habits, I average 17 @ 65MPH burning this fuel. I recently have driven in a convoy to northern IL and WI. Since one of our vehicles was restricted to 55 MPH on the highway, I was able to set my cruise at 60 for the entire trip. After 1250 miles I have averaged my highest mileage ever of 20.1 MPG.

Does anyone know what the energy content is of fuel containing MTBE over fuel containing ethanol? If ethanol has a higher energy content over MTBE, how is performance effected at the track or on a dyno.
Thanks

From the vast knowledge in my head, the single neuron firing tells me that you will normally experience lower milage with this fuel

I've read a few places that it's supposed to burn cleaner, but you lose hp in return.

Realisticly you can contact the EPA, or the DOT and they might be able to give you what THEY believe the "truth" to be on this matter.
