It's really hard to match the Mustang sound. The Flowmaster seems a little deeper, but non-distinct. When you hear a Mustang's exhaust note, you know it's a Mustang. As far as the cat back system, you might be much further ahead money wise to just buy a good muffler and have a shop custom bend the rest for you. I put a link on another post today that details the description of my install. Here it is again, and sorry to all those out there that have seen it enough already: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000380.html

Question

I'll second that!

My '97 would light the tires till the wheel-hop loosened my fillings -- it was a 3.55.

The new one won't slip on wet pavement -- and it's a 3.73 (great tires???).

Hello fellow Arkansan, just wondered how many miles you have on that new truck. If not many you might find a little more power once it's broken in. Also once you wear a few thousand miles of rubber off those goodyears, you'll be wishing for the good old days when the tires didn't spin, even more so in the rain. I have a '97 with the 4.6 and about 40K on the stock Goodyears, and it'll definatly spin when punched from a dead stop, add a little rain and some of the hilly roads through Little Rock and it becomes downright scarry sometimes.

There is no traction control in the computer. A traction control uses ABS signals to adjust spinning, and if it were there, they would brag and overcharge you for it. They are not used on open axles.

Cool

Hey Y2K 7700, I just today ordered a 2001 Wedgewood Blue/Silver Lariat SC SB 5.4L E4x4 3.73LS 7700# towing. How do you like yours? If you ordered another one, would you go the same way?

Hey, Boss!

You're gonna Love your new truck!

I'd like another two cylinders; but then again, I think Dolly Pardon should fill out a bit too.

Gonna do my first towing with it next week (will gross 11K#) -- My '97 was the same but for a few less ponies and 3.55 -- and it was good enough for me to purchase the same truck again (a little heavier on testosterone).

No regrets.

I wish my truck had come with the Goodyears. I just spent $500 for tires that won't spin so much. Rolling along about 20mph- stomp on the gas and light up both of the POS Generals that came on the truck.

The thing that sounds odd about CodeBlue's situation is that my truck can still spin the new GY Eagles (if I try). I'd expect the 5.4 to overpower any of the OEM tires.

If you floor my truck off the line going straight, it spins both wheels about one time then takes off. I'm surprised with the good traction mine gets. I also like the manual 1st to 2nd gear scratch it lays since installing the Superchip. I like traction, not smoke.

My friends f-150 w/ 5.4 would lay 50-60 ft of rubber down on black asphalt pavement. He has the 4*4 O.R.P. The tires were already a little wore down but he still could lay some nice rubber down when new.The truck just sits there and spins then slowly advances forward. Also code blue what was wrong with you 99' slugeraldo that made it so bad.

Question 5.4L Power

I have a 2000 F-150 Regular CAB SWB 2WD 3.55 regular rear axle with the 5.4L V8. From a stop the truck will not spin the tires after the truck is at operating temp on asphalt. Right now in Arkansas it is about 95 Deg and 80% humidty and I know that this reduce its power a little. But my question is does the Ford have some kinda of program in the computer to prevent tire spin or does the computer need to be reset. I had a 99 GMC before (less than a year) with 270HP and it would tear the tires up from a stand still if the truck wouldnt fall apart first. (Worst truck I have ever owned. Never will I by a GM agian.) Trust me I am not putting down Fords they are by far the best trucks ever built period. But for 260hp I am just thinking it should tear them up also. Another thought that had crossed my mine is that the Ford Powertrain looks a whole lot stronger than GM's just look at the rear differental on the 5.4L (man is it huge). It leads me to believe the ford powertrain has heavier parts for durablity and not for speed making them just a little harder to get going. I also have the K&N Air Injection System coming for my truck does anybody have any comments on that product also.

Thanks for you help.

Tires and rear end types play a large role in traction too. With all else being the same, a 3.55 limited slip rearend and the factory BF Goodrich tires will grip a lot better than an open rear end with the factory Goodyears. What is your set-up? You may not be able to light them up, but still be able to beat that Chevy down the road. Planting that power is what it's all about....

Thanks my truck has the 255-70R16 factory Goodyears and just the regular rear axle. But you are right it will hook up and run. It doesn't seem down on power at all. I just thought maybe the computer had just learned my style of driving. I see that you are wanting a K&N FIPK mine will be in friday. How do you like the Flowmaster Cat-Back system does it sound similar to the mustangs.

Lets start.

When I got rid of it it had 11000 miles. It was in the shop at least once a month if not more. I have compiled a list of the reported problems.
1. All the tires had to be replaced due to vibration (Goodyear problem)
2. Drivers side door motor had to be replaced it broke away from the door frame.
3. Passanger side door motor retighten due to the same problem.
4. Rear suspension had to be replaced.
5. Front suspension had loud pop when turning (Never Found)
6. Shifted into drive never went stayed in nuetral
7. Trany would sometimes after a stop never shift to 1st gear.
8. Cold natured would almost die from take off after start no matter the weather.
9. Countless rattles and creaks
10. Could not climb a hill without weight in back. (My Ford will climb the same hill and will hardly spin a tire.)
Other that is was a good truck. Ford by far is the toughest and most durable truck on the road.
