Talking

MitchF150,

Now you went and spoiled it for us. Making sense and all... I was hoping this thread would last well into 2002. My Ideal truck; F150 SuperCab Flairside 7700# 4x4 Manual SOTF 6 speed 4:10 gears with 6.8 V10.
It would be Fast and able to haul anything you wanted.

Regards

Jean Marc Chartier

Thumbs up JMC:

Yeah, I know, but figured it just had to be said.......

That V10, F150 would be a very cool ride indeed. I saw in a magazine that someone dropped a V10 into a Crown Victoria! So I'm sure it's possible to do the same in an F150

Just need to win that Lotto!!

While it is true that you lose hp due to a torque conveter you actually gain low end torque with an automatic transmission... however I have always been partial to manual transmissions even for pulling despite what Ford says about it. What it boils down to is that with a manual you can choose your gears and shift points. Of course what this also means being that we are all human is that you will not be as consistant with a manual tranny as far as racing goes, also harder to launch a manual in my opinion. BUT the fun factor is definitely higher in a manual.
TO EACH HIS OWN..I currently have an auto and sometimes wish for a manual.

so how long have they been building auto tranies? since the 40's or 50's - early tourqflites?? the early two speed manuals with a tourque.

So after all those years they are still lossing 40 hp - not likley i think to many people are old school - over 20 years ago the installed stators in the tourque - then later curved the fins in the impeller and turbine - maybe in the 60's 40 hp but now i find that hard to beleive - plus the pcm also can lock the convertor or modulate the lock up and then there is no or little slipage, mind u still some loss in the power need to run the pump but now with sensors monitoring the input shaft and output shaft the pcm determines how much pressure by the measure of slipage

Anyway a 5.4 will have a better resale value over any of the others and for the most part will beat any of the others, btw i have 3.73 from factory in wich the 4.6 offroads only had 3.55 in the same year so hard for me to compare to 4.6's as its not a fair comparison so to find trucks equipped excatly the same with only difference being the 5.4 auto would be hard to find

Any way a diff question : have any of you beat a vortech (95) chev 350 auto 2 wd? I've hear people saying that the vortech 350's will take the new 5.3's ?? wich if so i wonder how they come up with the new hp levels compared to about ten years ago when everything was dropping. for example the old 92 302 was rated at 185 and the new vortech 5.3 285 hp - sure doesnt seem like a 100 hp diff to me, or for that matter an old mustang 93 rated at 215 will smoke a 285 hp 5.3, i know there is the weight diff but you would think if it were true it would be closer than that??

Like someone said before (don't ask where I read it)...

We buy HP, and we drive torque.

We all complain about bad fuel economy and you guys are talking V-10... yikes!

Not to put down the v-6's but my Ranger had a V-6 and I just had to go for the v-8 4.6 sound and feel. You just can't make a v-6 sound like a v-8. Of course if a v-8 isn't in your budget that's ok too. After all, its still a Ford!
