It was the same site as the mini Mopar, interesting but not entirely convincing.

I cut a Fram and a Motorcraft filter apart. The Fram was indeed cheap and flimsy like the oil filter thread explained. The Motorcraft media and drainback valve looks like a Purolater. Ford Man is right about Allied Signal putting out great products, this isn't one of them.

Fram used to make a great product decades ago; but no more. They rely on their name and the great associations we boomers had with that cool orange color from our childhood. Does anybody else remember the racing stickers bubble gum packs? We had those stickers on everything. Fram still has the coolest LOOKING filter around!
A buddy of mine builds race engines and teaches automotive machine shop courses at Ivy Tech near Columbus, IN, and warns each customer and student to KEEP AWAY FROM FRAM oil filters. That's good enough for me. Wix, Motorcraft, or Purolator are adequate choices.
As far as Wal Mart goes, Ford Man, I can relate, but It's kind of like cutting your nose....
Maybe there are some good self-help sites for your affliction on the Internet. Do a search on "Loathing Wal Mart" and see what comes up! Maybe Big K is the cure?

I'll pay twice of whatever Wal-Fart sells anything for, or just do without. I am thoroughly convinced everything they sell, most notably automotive related items, are not first quality. I know a lot of folks around here are getting fed up and shopping elsewhere.

Walmarts are still the only place in Canada to buy Jif peanut butter. And Jif rules!

Unfortunately, Cdn Walmarts don't stock Motorcraft filters. Only Fram and AC Delco. Does Walmart sell Motorcraft filters in the States?

I've used FRAM filters for the past 20 or so years and have no ill experiences(100,000+ miles). I read, with great interest, the info collected on the mopar web-link and debated about switching to AC DELCO (isn't that a GM brand?). Anyway, after listening to posts here, I think I'll stay with my tried and true PH2 and PH8A for mine.

I've seen some sell Motorcraft, selection is usually **** poor (classic Wal-Fart), generally just FL-1A Motorcraft around here. I stay out of that white trash place for the most part (went in there the other day, first time in a year and a half and looked, don't miss it).

Back in 95-96 I know Purolator was making Motorcraft filters(oil) in Fayetteville, NC plant, but I don't know if that is still happening???
I believe Ford contracts out many of its parts, such as filters to name brand companies and they are made to order with Ford specs.

I have used FRAM filters for 15 years...but in my opinion, FRAM filters are junk when compared to what is currently on the market today. I will not use another one until they improve the design. The factory Motorcraft filters are very good.

I also cut each one open..and this is why I quit using FRAM in all of my vehicles. NOT TO MENTION, THE ONE TIME I USED A FRAM IN MY 98 F150...it caused the valves to rattle because of the darn plastic valve. I took it off after experiencing this for a couple of weeks...put a Motorcraft back on...no more problem.

I am not risking my expensive truck over a plastic valve and cardboard in an inferior oil filter

Florida members: Anyone know the best price in the Venice - Sarasota, Florida, area for Motorcraft oil filters? I'll get my folks to bring me back a box of them when they come back to Canada in April.

Dealership price in Canada for Motorcraft filters is too high!! I got the Motorcraft price wrong in my first post in this thread. Regular Canadian price is $7.17 each for the Motorcraft FL-400S. The dealership parts guy sold me mine at trade discount price by mistake. That makes them just about double Walmart's $3.97 price for Frams. Too much!!!

Here is my 2 bits on this
As far as the Fram ph3600 it is the same as the fl400 but not the same as the fl400s the s stands for the anti drain back valve fram does not make a filter to meet the fl400s and this also goes for the fl820s that is on the f150's if you would go and look it up in a book it will give you a ph2 which does not have the anti drain valve so this is what I think if it is a Ford put a Ford filter the motor cost to much to replace down the road. This is just my 2 bits.

Talking

The "S" stands for Silicone as the anti drain valve in it has a silicone seal. I'll stay with the FL-400S, or the NAPA Gold equivelant. Wal-Fart the Fuji loving trader post sells the 400S for $2.57 here in Rochester, NY. In canada you pay $7+??. MAN,, you want a care package sent up??. I used Fram 3600's in our 94 Taurus. It received a nice shiney new short block at 63Kmi. Mostly from the head issue, but I kinda like placing part of the blame on a rather inferior filter that had me brainwashed by their ads.
Thanks for posting the filter data on the top of this thread.
Rick..

First of all a huge thanks to the Mopar guy for all of his hard work to bring us valuable oil filter information!

After reading such a thorough report from someone with no axe to grind, and no apparant biases, I am not taking any chances! No more Fram filters for anything I own.

Luckily I read that report some time ago. My new truck will only see Motorcraft filters and Mobil 1 oil. It is due for it's third oil change at 3,000 miles! I changed oil only (Castrol GTX 5w30) when I got back from the dealership at about 260 miles, then at about 1,400 miles I changed the filter (Motorcraft) and oil (Mobil 1 5w30).

I find it hard to believe that anyone would take chances using the poorly designed Fram filter!

MN99: I checked the Fram catalog hung up at the Walmart last night - had to go back with some milk I bought Wednesday night. Turned out I'd bought three bags of urine-coloured cottage cheese. PH3600 is the only filter Fram lists for V6 F150s and Taurus. Weird.

Karick11: Thanks for the info. Yup, that's what the dealers charge here. Plus 15% taxes which puts it over $8. Good to know Walmart in Rochester stocks the Motorcraft I need. I'll have my folks check out a Florida Walmart. If I ever get down to NY state from Ottawa, I'll drop in to a Walmart, also.
