Post I need some ground to stand on w/ the dealership

My father has a 99 5.4x4, with the oil leak and Piston Slap with 34k. The dealer told him that they ford was looking into it and would let him know when a solution was found. This was before my dad spoke with me, and it is obvious they are giving him the circle jerk, as that was 2 months ago. Is there a TSB number I can give him to take in with him? I am more concerned about his oil Leak than the slap, but both would be nice.

I used to have a book mark that allowed you to print out TSB's, as the dealer would. Anyone have this? The TSB feature on this site doesn't say anything about these problems. Any help is appretiated.

Scott

I would think that Ford would replace the engine.

I'd go to another dealer. They MUST fix the oil leak, but with the piston slap they should replace the engine completely.

Pressure...

Pressure is the key. That is how I got my engine replaced, after having the head fixed once, and then it went out agian, along with knocking worse after they replaced the original head and gasket.
I was also told by a Ford Mechanic, to complain about cold engine knock, and that I should have done that the first time. I didn't know, but when I went in there, they diagnosed it, and replaced the engine with a new one from the factory, not a FQR.....because the engine build date is really close to when they installed it in my truck. Hope this helps out. Like the others have said, if they won't do it, take it to another dealership for a second opinion.

I was in the service dept. yesterday for an oil change and I over heard a conversation about some one with the piston slap. They said they were going to change the engine. They know about this. Don't let them push you around. For the kind of money we spend on these trucks they should stand behind them.

Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you. Had the oil leak fixed at 23K miles, but they would only replaced the head gasket. Never had the piston slap problem. My truck now has 34K miles and the oil leak has returned. I'm getting ready to take the truck in again after the holidays.
