Angry Slapper Replacement

The saga continues....

The service manager at my dealer is incompetant and is lying through her teeth and I'm stuck!!

Back in early April, when she diagnosed the problem I asked her how many slappers has she replaced? She indicated several but she cant order one w/o a heavy line mechanic. She lost hers and is looking for a new one. She said she had three engines in the shop waiting to be installed.

Later, at the beginning of May, when I'm griping at her about what a terrible job they did replacing the flywheel in my wife's '99 Mercury, she tells me that she has a heavy line guy. I say great. Have you orderd my replacement and she sez yes.

Well then She calls me yesterday and tells me that I need to bring my truck down because she needs the serial number from the enginge before she can order the engine but it will only take 4 days for it to come in.

What's wrong w/ this picture?? I thought she ordered the engine already?? If she had ordered engine replacements before then did she forget that she needed the serial numbers??

People I think I am screwed!! I called another dealer and asked if they could do the replacement and they said sure, bring the truck in and let us hear the slap. Only problem w/ this is the engine doesn't make the noise anymore now that the temp has risen. I've only got about 4,000 miles of warranty left and I'm so close w/ the lame dealer.

I'm thinking about letting them replace the engine and then just take it elswhere to fix their inevitable screwups under the new warranty I should get w/ the new engine.

Anyone got any suggestions??

BTW, the dealer is LaPorte Ford formerly Joe Camp Ford in LaPorte, Texas

They do not come recomended by this former customer.

Sorry 'bout the rant being so long.

When my truck was diagnosed with the "slap" the service writer stated that they had to take some lube oil pressure reading somewhere during the start up. I am assuming that these reading had something to do with the replacement.

By the way I had to go to a different dealer to get mine replaced, the first dealer say basically no harm no foul, the second dealer had the truck 2 hours one morning and had a new engine on order.

Good luck!!

Hey BA, nice to see some TTMB guys over here too.

Your post said she called and wanted the numbers so she could order the engine. Did you get her the numbers?

Sometimes it makes a difference WHO you talk to at the dealer. I went to one of the local dealers here in Austin and talked with one of the service techs that came out to help me. I got the impression that I wasn't much of a priority. A few weeks later, I went back and talked with someone else and was treated excellent. He did everything I requested, which was everything the other guy didn't want to do for me. Very accomodating.

I have found that it helps in these situations, when things are not moving along to your goal, that riding their *** helps. She said get me the #'s and it will be 4 days to get the engine. Give her the numbers and call her on the 4th day at 0800. If she doesn't have it, ask when it's arriving. Call every day if you have to and "check in with her" on the status of the order. Often times the loudest squeak gets the most grease, if you know what I mean. Still no resolution, ask her for the phone number to Ford's Area Rep., and ask to see her boss.

Anyway, I know you have been steaming about this for some time now, hope you get it fixed soon.

Adios,

Tsip.

Well I went by yesterday evening and talked w/ the heavy line guy. Man do I feel better. He seemed very competant (had all his teeth)and agreed/sympathized with my situation and summation of the service manager. Anyway he got the numbers he needed (off the sticker on the left head cover) and told me the engines have been taking about a week to come in. He said he's running a week behind because he has seveal in house he is replacing so it'll be about two weeks b-4 he calls me (looks like he's gonna get some practice b-4 he gets to mine). Anyway he said that I will be getting a 2000 engine and it will come w/ heads, oil pan, water pump, spark plugs and crank pully and will take 2 days to swap out.

I'm gonna call in 7 days to see if it's in if it is, I'll run down w/ the Kodak and shoot some pics and post them if anyone is interested in seeing what a 2000 Triton 5.4 looks like sittin' on the ground.

Hey Tsip, next time you find yourself on the coast, give me a holler and we will go chase Convicts around the bay
