Well about 3,500 miles ago, my truck was in and had the head replaced due to oil leaking out, and I was told that I would never have another leak, and that the problem was taken care of. Well about two weeks ago, I started to smell oil, but thought that it was from other cars. Brought my truck in for an oil change at a local ford dealer, and told them I want to look when the truck was on the hoist, and low and behold, it was my truck that I was smelling agian. So off to the service department to make an appointment. This time I am demanding a new motor so that I shouldn't have this problem agian..hopefully. I will post what I find out, but thought that I would let everyone know how has had oil leaks in the past. Good thing for the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. Maybe get rid of it and get a Super Duty....<---just dreaming about that.

I recall that there was a run of defective 5.4L blocks where oil seeped out thru the block. It's a casting defect and Ford will replace the engine.

 

Thanks for the added info on that. I had only heard of the head leaking, and that was replaced. Oh well, just have to wait and see what happens. If they don't get it right this time, they will be buying it back under the "lemon law".

 

MNFord 99 out of curiosity what is the engine build date,if you look at drivers side of engine there should be a sticker with date on it.Thanks

The engine build date sticker states 3-4-99, out of the Windsor, Ontario plant. What does that mean? Is there a certain block that they are replacing or what? Guess I haven't heard anything from Ford or a dealer about this matter, but the truck goes in today for service pertaining to that, and a bad seal on the rear differential. So much fun, but Ford is getting close to the 30 for the truck being in the shop, so I am hoping maybe they will buy it back as a LEMON!!!! Truck only has 26,000 miles on it.

I am a little happier this morning, I got a call from the dealer, they are not going to rebuild the motor agian with a new head on the passanger side. They are dropping in a complete 2000 5.4L in it, just have to wait for them to get it in now. I complained about cold engine knock,(talked to an mechanic from a different Ford dealer and he informed me about that and they will more than likely replace the engine.) and low and behold it worked. Just thought that you guys would like to know that, and maybe you too can get your engines replaced or what not.
