Post No EGR valve on 2000 6.8

Has anybody noticed that there is no EGR valve on the 2000 6.8s? I believe there was on the 1999 but non the 2000 the inlet to the intake manifold where the valve was connected is plugged, and the exhaust manifold has only a circle where the EGR tube used to connect and that circle is molded solid.

Another difference I have noticed on the 2000 6.8 is that when decelerating, there is almost no fuel feed- that is to say that you can feel very strong compression and breaking action. Most other modern engines have very little compression breaking because they feed fuel when decelerating to reduce emissions.

I would like to hear other people’s observations or knowledge of how Ford was able to do this.

Thanks
