Post Chevy engines overhead cam?

Ok, I've been searching for the answer to this question on the Internet but I can't find it. Are the Chevy engines in the 99/00 pickup trucks overhead cams like our Fords? A friend told me they are not cams like ours, but I find that hard to believe.

They are NOT overhead cam engines like ours. Your friend is 100% correct. They use push rods instead. I can't get very technical..since I have never owned one.

The Toyota Tundra has dual overhead cams.

The Chevy and Dodge are still running the pushrod engines. An easy way to tell is by looking at the front of the valve covers, you'll see a plastic casing that houses the timing belt. Ford and Toyota are the only ones with the ohc design. Ford already has a 4-valve DOHC 5.4L being used in the Lincoln Navigator that puts out 300hp & 360ft-lbs of torque. It's also being used in the Cobra Mustangs. I assume they'll eventually use the DOHC 5.4L in the F-150 in the near future.

Actually the new Dodge 4.7 which replaces the 318 is an OHC hemi and a very nice engine. A friend has one in a Dakota and it moves. Dodge is bringing out a larger OHC to replace the 360. GM, for reasons only they can know, decided to stay with OHV technology

Exclamation

The Chevy V8s get the best fuel mileage and most horsepower in their class while meeting emmisions requirements. If it aint broke don't fix it. Just think how many trucks Dodge could sell if a Fuel Injected 426 Hemi was an engine option.
