Post Engine performance over time

Has anyone noticed a loss of power in their Triton engine as time passes and miles get added? The reason I ask, a guy I work with just had his engine replaced with a new one (under warranty). He has a 97 F150 with the 4.2 V6. He had over 50,000 miles and now he has a brand new engine. So I asked if he noticed the new engine had a little more "life" than the old one. He said it felt the same to him. I know my old car (87 Taurus w/ 160,000) was a lot less zippy than when she was new. But I only have 10,000 on my current truck so not enough time to tell. But some of you out there with 50K, 60K, 70K or more miles, does the engine's performance lessen with age. Or are the Tritons so good that performance is as good as the day you got it.

I have 50k miles on my 97 5.4L and it still runs strong. I even ran it down the drag strip just for fun. Tows very well, uses no oil. I am very pleased with the performance and plan on keeping this truck along time.

Well as you may already know the 4.2 is not a member of the Triton family. I have seen many, many of these engines with 90,000, 100,000 and one with 139,000 miles. Some ran very hard some have been taken care of. But one thing for sure they still ran good! (tight and without a hitch) The Triton family of engines were designed to meet 150,000 duribility targets. If you do a little home work you'll see that they are hardy engines. Police , taxi and other commercial uses have seen these with 300,000 miles.

I've got 82300 on my 97 XLY supercab 4.6. superchip and k&n only mods. Still runs tight. Daily driver, and tow a pop-up camper with it after auxillary transmission cooler install. Up and down a mountain near every day!
