MN4x4, Glad to see you are keeping up on the competition. Have you ever been to a stock 4x4 truck pull? Those trucks pull a lot more than a couple of Chebys. I had a friend who had a Cheby. It was a 2 wheel drive and he thought it was the baddest truck around. The fool put wide snow tires on it and a lot of weight in the back and he entered one of those truck pulls. He dumped the clutch and all the thing did was sit there and spin the tires. So, he backed up and put slack in the chain and jerked the damn sled 6 inches. By that time, we were rolling on the ground. No matter what he did, he couldn't turn that Cheby into a Ford.

The last I checked I never called any Fords inferior did I? In fact I have said that a Triton will beat a NEW Chevy with no problems. Both companies make excellent trucks, but I will never buy that a Bronco pulled two Chevys which is what got me in here in the first place. It just isnt possible.

But Im sure Im not gonna sway anybody to the "dark side"...
Just proves my point that the Ford boys are some of the most biased truck owners.

my next truck will be a Ford.
Yeah I know he was kidding...for the most part anyways. Im not gettin my undies in a bunch over it thats for sure. I have thicker skin then that!
Biased yes...mostly right. But both companies make excellent trucks. As long as its not a Dodge.
As for my next truck...Im not completely sure. It will be a tough choice. I really have my heart set on a PSD SuperDuty, what a sweet ride that would be, but lately those Silverado HD's with the Duramax/Allison have been calling my name too. Decisions, decisions. Oh well...I have a couple more years of college to think it through and save my pennies.

All right guys. I've been reading your replys and wanted to share a little story of my own with you.
A good friend of mine has a 1999 3/4 ton Chevy Crew Cab that he uses for farm use. It is a short bed with a tool box and a fuel cell that was half full of diesel at the time. He put a 3 inch body lift on it in order to fit the Mickey Thompson Radial Bear Claw 305/70R16's under it. This is all powered by a 350 cid.
I have a 2001 Ford Supercrew with a 4.6L. I also have the 305/70R16 Radial Bear Claw's on my truck but I didn't have to lift it because they fit under my stock height truck.
Now this guy begged me to hook up with him all the time but I never did because I was sure he would pull me around like a rag doll. One time at a party of mine, he called me out in front of all my friends and I had to arise to his challenge. We put our trucks in a field, hooked them up bumper to bumper with a tow strap, got the tow strap tight and began the pull.
It turns out that I moved him about 5 feet and then we just sat there and spun. Neither one of us could believe it and I looked like the hero. All my buddys still talk about it. Now they call my truck Mighty Mouse.
What do you think about that?

Traction is the problem
Its probably been a year now but I hooked my truck to a '99 Z71 with 5.3 in a dry pasture. In high, neither truck had the power to pull the other. We both sat there for two or three seconds and when nothing happened backed off. In low, we both sat and spun. But after that I got the wise idea to put the tranny in 2 while in low range to force the transmission into second gear (designed to reduce torque when taking off in slippery conditions) and that worked as long as I gave it just the right amount of throttle to keep the tires from spinning too much. And still, I definitely couldn't say that I dragged him. But he fragged his transfer case so I still got to laugh.
After that, I hooked to a 89' 3/4 ton cheby with 454 and he pulled me in high with all four of my wheels locked. Don't mess with big-blocks...

The last truck pull I was at was hilarious. There were a few street driven Fords in the 3/4 ton class and they all made it about 75-100 feet. Then came the home twon hero with his built up Chevy 3/4 ton. He had open exhaust and a very radially built motor. He had been running his mouth in the pits about how he was going to show up all these farmers and their POS Fords, etc etc. Anyway, they hook up the load and he took off, went about 20 feet and the truck started hopping and bucking like crazy. He wound up bending his frame to the point where the truck sat all goofy from the bent frame. He wound up taking last place in his "built" Chevy!
I bet my truck could pull two Cheby's, 97 Powerstroke 4x4, 4.10 , and 7,800 lbs
. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I also have a 98 F-150 4x4 ext. cab, 4.6 ( wifes truck ) and I will admit that I am impressed at how it pulls, I've never played a tug of war with it but I think it might hold it's own. Now two Cheby's would be something to see, or two trucks period, Ford Cheby or Dodge. I would hook up my Powerstroke though

Chebby stronger than FORD
I only have one question if the chebby's are so much stronger and better how could my old 99's/c 4.2l outrun a chebby with the 4.8l???? and now with my 5.4 orp the z71's seem like a joke. The chebby is supposed to have more power but mine keeps whoopin there asses strange huh. matbe the 5.3 and 4.8 are not all there cracked up to be. As far as the 350 try a 95' with the 200 onies and tell me how great is after lol
thats my .02
thats my .02
This is definitley Ford country.
My truck couldn't pull a 4X4 S-10. It'll fly on the highwaw though.
I guess this is an arguement that has been going on for years. I can't see that it will ever be solved.
MN4X4, not all of us are so bias. You know this.
I will give credit to the 350ci. It's tried and true. It is used in many aplications. You can get go fast parts for it just about anywhere. Is it superior to any Ford V8? Well I wouldn't go so far as to say that.
My dad is a Ford man and I followed in his foot steps. I like vehicles from just about every auto maker. Not Hyundai and Kia though.
I'm in a Ford now because, my dad steered me in that direction, to me they look so much better than any other truck out there and I can afford to have some of the extras, aFordable!
This is a great disscussion. The only thing is, trying to defend Chevy on a Ford sight is like being a man, in a group of women, saying pregnancy is easy.
Great thread. Have fun.

bulldog. chevy does not make a 3.55 rear end. i think your lying about your the wax! hey did any one see the junk yard wars about the tractor pulling machines? I think that on mud, pavement or whatever the wheels would start spinning imediately.
