Bumper to Bumber hook-up of Triton v/s Chevy?

As far as the 4.6 outpulling the 5.7 I have reason to doubt that too although it would put up a fight. Those old 350's had tons of power with alot of it being down low. These are good pulling engines...we have a 93 K1500, 350 auto with 3.73's and 165,000 miles. I was pulling around fertilizer tank trailer this summer that weighed close to 11,000 lbs full. Starting from a dead stop that truck doesnt have a problem getting it moving. In fact if you hit the throttle too hard it will break the tires loose and smoke em.
And that truck was a TBI with two injectors on top of the throttle body...not a multi port Vortec like that 97. The Vortec's will walk all over the TBI's. Now if you hooked up a 5.4 and a 5.3 the Triton will win. The new LS-1 Chevy's dont have much down low, they need to get the revs up to make power which in my opinion is a bad choice to put into a truck. I would bet that a 4.6 ford would give a 5.3 Chevy a heck of a fight too.
I think all the Chevys would have to do to keep from getting pulled is just sit there with there brakes on. The Bronc couldn't pull that much dead weight. It's when the chebys started to try to pull and they got there tires spinning and lost traction is when the Bronc could pull them to Kingdom Come. I did the same thing back when I was a Chevy man and had a '67 WITH A 283 AGAINST A '69 fORD FLATBED WITH A 390. I had 3 on the tree and he had a granny low 4 speed. Of coarse I couldn't pull him, but he couldn't pull me when I had my brakes on.
Just one note...if you are going to attempt a tug of war. Be sure and hook up to the frame or receiver hitch. If you hook to the bumper there is a very good chance of pulling it off.

I agree!!!
Don't those chebys only build good HP at higher RPM's like most small blocks!!!
They have nothing down low!!
That would explain why they put big blocks in trucks labeled as 2 ton. I.E. F350,F550

I don't know...I always thought it was the other way around, those chebys were quick off the line, but once those ford big blocks got wound out, they were just hitting the high spots in the road.
You guys HAVE to put some MPEG video out there so we can all see this truck tug-o-war-in-the-parking-lot thing. All the truck lovin guys down here in the office would get a huge hoot out of that. We're about split between Ford and Cheby owners so we'd have some side bets going on to determine who buys the first round during happy-hour on Friday. At least nobody here owns a Dodge...
By the bumpers ?
When you do the movie you should tie them up by the rear axles, we'd all be even more entertained...
Sorry, sometimes you just have to chime in even if you know it's wrong...

I had a 79 Bronco with a 351M at that time just stock in high school. I was one of the few ford fans in are school. They always teased me for being a Ford lover. One day I had it I told the Chevy boys to pull out the best 4 by 4 and lets have some fun. We had 5 events. the first one was a drag got bet by a little. The second one was a hill climb I killed him bad. the best part he could not even make it up the hill he said bad tires. Then we had a bumper to bumper pull beat him again. Again he said bad tires. The foutrh was a dirt race I beat him twice so we call it a draw. The first dirt race he said i cheated. The last race was a 5 mile highway race on a straght road I won again. I never got teased again. The truck I was racing was a 83 'Chevy blazer. I loved that truck use to go Rail road jumping in it all the time had a blast in it.
The way me and my 4.6 beat the 350 were with the tow strap from hitch to hitch and both in 4LO. We got the strap tight, counted to three, then applied power, but not by mashing the throttle. I never broke traction, and he did. And just to be sure the first time wasn't a fluke we did it again with the same results. We pulled on a paved back country road so both trucks had equal footing.

Soooooooo, was it a more power thing or more traction on your part thing. When I did it 25 years ago, we did it on dirt, so things would give before we tore up something. Man, 4 low on pavement....hard on parts I would think.

Hard on parts period. 4x4 on pavement is only additional stress if you are turning (wheel travel).
Its all traction. Whoever's got more in similar vehicles is gonna win..... Break'em loose and you are going to get dragged......

We tried first in a corn field which had been chopped, just sat and dug holes, then on a dirt driveway with the same result, finally said heck with it and did it on the road. Really its just like pulling a really heavy trailer.................a trailer thats pulling back against you but a trailer none the less. Heck it was fun and we didn't hurt anything doing it.

Bulldog I would bet that if you both had new tires of the same brand and style that you wouldnt have one so easily. If he was spinning and you werent then its obvious why you won.

It may have been Bulldogs' gearing, or torque difference. If he was geared lower, then I could see where he wouldn't slip his tires as easily as the chebys'. There are a number of variables that we just aren't aware of.
3.55 vs. 3.55....................... And the sun was shining on both trucks, the pavement was level, tires were clean, trucks were polished, my teeth were brushed, and my hair was combed...............................any other variables ya can think of????

The last I checked I never called any Fords inferior did I? In fact I have said that a Triton will beat a NEW Chevy with no problems. Both companies make excellent trucks, but I will never buy that a Bronco pulled two Chevys which is what got me in here in the first place. It just isnt possible. But Im sure Im not gonna sway anybody to the "dark side"...
Just proves my point that the Ford boys are some of the most biased truck owners. I should know because I used to be one. If you would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be driving a Chevy I would have called you crazier then a three peckered billy goat.
Dont get me wrong I still like Fords...my next truck will be a Ford. But for now I love my "Cheby," Its a solid truck that fits my needs and most importantly my limited budget. A friend owned it before me, it now has 165,000 trouble free miles and shows no signs of slowing up. It has needed nothing more than normal maintenance/wear items and I'll run it into the ground.
