Question Air intake questions (Performance)

After reading nearly every message on here over the past weeks I've read several discussions regarding air filters and FIPKs.

I did just put a drop-in K&N Filtercharger into my new 2000 F-150. I wanted to put a FIPK into it, but am natuarally a little hesitant for warranty reasons, not to mention whether it's worth the money and which one to get.

I see that some just stick with the drop-in replacement, others go with the full FIPK, then there is the question of which one to go with, and is the difference worth it?

And how far should I go in modifying a new vehicle? My friends (even the mechanic)think I'm nuts when I mention the other things I'd like to do.

Hey Y2k Offroad,
Go with the FIPK if you want it. I installed the Airaid FIPK. My dealer told me that it would not affect my warranty. I am happy with it, a nice neat looking install. When I stomp on the throttle it sounds like a big 4brl carb I chose the Airaid over K&N FIPK because of what I've read here. The K&N sits the filter much lower causing it to rub on the wiring harness under it. Airaid sits up nearly level with the throttle body and can easly be positioned not to rub on anything. However, I can hear a slight little whistle at times ?? Being worth the $$, considering the price of everything else,I think so.
While I'm at it, I do recommend the Superchip too!!
Hope this helps.
Good luck!!

go for it, You are protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which makes it *illegal* to void your warranty, or to even deny a warranty claim, just because you have aftermarket parts installed.

Awesome! Thanks for the response... Now the question is which one to get. Seems a lot of you have the K&N FIPK, while others have the Airaid. I'm leaning towards the K&N, but I'm open to suggestions.

Where is a good place order one online too?
Thanks all!

Question

I was told by a friend of mine that I shouldn't waste my money on the standard K&N FIPK, but rather for for a K&N GEN II FIPK.

I'm leaning towards the GEN II since it suposedly brings in cooler air. Thoughts? And where can I find those? Don't see them on the online store.

I sent K&N an e-mail about a month ago asking if they 1) corrected the issue of the filter rubbing on the wires and 2) if they have developed, for an F-150, a FIPK that would draw in cool air through the fender wall.

I have received no response to date.

K&N is aware of the problem by now I am sure. I had the wire clip over by the resevoir rub a hole in my filter. I contacted K&N and they sent out new filter and stronger silicone adapters. Seems to sit up high and away from the culprit wire clip now. No charge for any of the above from K&N.

K&N fixed the rubbing problem last year. I put a 99 model on my 2000 (same setup as 99) and there is no way it can rub anything. Believe me, no reason to be concerned. The only way it will rub is if it is installed improperly. Model number is
57-2514-1. It is Gen II.

Cool

Ron,

Where did you buy the K&N GEN II FIPK for your 2000 5.4L pickmup?

TIA.

Superhulk - Bought my K&N Fipk from Fairway Sport and Performance in Placentia, Ca. Phone number is (714) 579-3894 or 528-4670. Located right next to Fairway Ford. Have done business with them in past. Ask for Jon.

Just a word of caution about any aftermarket parts, especially engine. Yes you are protected by Mag Moss but, be prepaired for a fight with (most) dealers. They are "trained" to raise the "red flag" when they see aftermarket parts. Believe me I have experienced it! (see sig for mods)
