Race him long enough and his truck will eventually break down.

Pretty sure tha Truck Trend ran a head to head between the 2 vehicles we are talking about (5.4 vs 5.9 both 4x4's) a couple months back.

The 5.4 was the clear winner in performance especially once the revs start building. I seem to recall they were both pretty close of the line but the 5.9 was a real dog higher in the rev band where as the 5.4 just kept pulling hard.

They even gave the towing edge to the 5.4 if I recall correctly.

No go spank your buddy's Dodge!

Here's the numbers. I can't remember if this is for 2001 or 2002, or if there is any difference between the years.

Silverado- 5.3 285HP and 325 ft lbs torque (made at 4000 RPM)
F150 ----- 5.4 260HP and 350 ft lbs torque (made at 2500 RPM)
Tundra --- 4.7 245HP and 315 ft lbs torque (made at 3400 RPM)
Dodge ---- 5.9 245HP and 335 ft lbs torque (made at 3200 RPM)

Of the 3 the Dodge looks closest to the Ford in HP and TQ.

actually, the Ford 4.6 vs. the Dodge 5.9 might be a pretty fair race...

I hate to burst your bubble but I beat the snot out of a new dodge 4x4 quiffcab with the 5.9l and it was a stomping!
I have a 01 4x4 orp super cab 5.4l and the dodge could'nt keep up at all so there dodge keep trying!

DTS -

What was your overall impression of the truck, other than the power? Like I said, I may consider one of these when I get to the end of my warranty, but would prefer to wait for the 5.7 hemi. Just curious as to what you thought about the looks, cabin design, handling, interior noise, etc...?

It is a nice truck, lots of room. But not as much in the back seat as the Screw. I was "almost" jelous until I got back in the Ford. That grill on the dodge is just to big, trying to hard, in your face for me. Guess I just like my truck!

By the way it's too icy/snowy to find out who is faster. Maybe next spring....

The 5.4l would smoke a 5.9l. Similarly equipt trucks, the Ford would run more than a full second quicker in the 1/4 mile.

I'd have to go out on a limb and say (all things being equal):

4th 5.2
3rd 4.8
2nd 4.6
1st 5.3

If they were all auto's I'd say the 4.6 would be 4th and the 4.8 2nd.
