Gopher-- I read that, & its because of the fume build-up.

KYFordFreak-- I let my truck warm up for 8-10 mins., & it also idles for 15-20 mins. sometimes. I consider my truck well maintained, changing the oil every 3000 miles & trans. fluid every 25,000.

For me....on the first start of the day, I almost always let it idle for several minutes. (Old habit from my aviation days I guess).

For everything else, I let it idle for a very short period or until the RPM drops below 1,000. No scientific reason behind this....just a habit I have developed. Sometimes..I'll just get in and go if Iam in a hurry......

A lot of interesting posts. Just my method that I do. I start the truck, buckle in, set my radio and wait for the idle to drop below 1,000 and ease it out of the garage. I have a little over a mile to go before I hit the highway. I never let the revs go over 1700 until the needle starts moving, which it has by the time I get on the highway. I don't ever rev the engine hard until it is at operating temp and the thermostat has opened....Never had any ill effects from it at all....just my $.02 worth
