I would like to ask what fuel would you guys
recommand for the F150 5.4L 87,89,92? Thanks for your help

 

I've had to use higher than 87 in previous vehicles to keep the knock down.

The 5.4 seems to do fine with 87 and since that's what the manual calls for I'll use it until I hear knocking.

My 99 F150, 4.6 runs fine on 87 octane, until I tow the boat then I get pinging on excelleration. so for that reason I just use 89 octane all the time and the problem goes away. I know some say occassional ping is ok, but to me its an unnatural noise and it can't be a good thing. In my 93 Chevy (350) I had to use 93 octane all the time, so using 89 now is no big deal.

 

My 99 5.4 does OK on 87. It does idle just a touch rough sometimes, but I don't know if it is from the gas or just the way it is.
I'm going to try a tank of 89 or 93 here when the prices come down a little just to see what it does.

 

When I towed with my last 5.4, I put in premium 'just because'.

I've only towed once with my new 5.4 -- and I didn't hear ping-one with regular -- but when it gets hot, I'll use premium again.

I tow less than 10% of the time -- and figure the extra cost for premium at those times is cheap insurance against spark knock.
