Post 4.6?

How diferent are the 4.6's they use in the crown vics from the one's in the trucks besides the intakes. I have not herd to many of the passenger car 4.6's having PS problems.

To start out with they use a 6qt oil pan instead of the crowns 5qt. The truck is tuned a little different also. The truck is a made to achieve the torque at a lower rpm. IE:tuned intake runners. Also the cooling system is a little larger with a larger (more blades) fan. You also will get a larger altinator&battery. I cant think of any other right now...........there are others though.

The Crown Vic is partly what sold me on my '97 XLT -- I rented one and enjoyed the stoplight thrust for a couple of days -- and then couldn't believe it was just 4.6L !!!

I'd really love to see a 7,500 RPM 4.6 with 4-valves.

the 4.6 truck engine uses fully floating piston pins. The auto versions do not. This results in a slightly different rod/pin and piston. All in the name of engine life!

Y2K7700, Mustang Cobra, 4.6, dual OHC, 32 valve, 320 hp(after factory fix, maybe). My son has one, I don't remember what the redline is but I think it is in the 7000 RPM range. He is also runing superchip. It will go.
