Cruise
Not sure were to ask this question = So I thought i would try in engines.
I have a 1995 F-150 XL, 302, Auto.
I want to put tilt in it and have found a column and it has the cruise control buttons in it.
So my question is what is needed to convert a NON-cruise truck over to a cruise. I have a donor truck, but I do not know what else I need to get?? Does the computer control it all, if so do I need the computer???

1995 Ford Truck F-150 Pickup Cruise Control
Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The speed control system is designed to automatically maintain vehicle speed at any driver-selected speed above approximately 30 mph and below 125 mph. The system is comprised of an electronic servo which consists of a throttle actuator with integrated electronics and other parts including the actuator cable, amplifier, horn relay, driver control switches, a brake lamp switch, a deactivator switch and a clutch switch for manual transmission vehicles. The speed signal is generated either by the Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM) or the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) . The electronic servo is mounted in the lefthand rear corner of the engine compartment and is connected to the throttle linkage with an actuator cable. The VSS is mounted on the transaxle.
OPERATION
To operate the speed control system, the engine must be running and the vehicle speed must exceed 30 mph. When the On-Off switch is actuated, the system is ready to accept a set speed signal. With the On switch engaged and vehicle speed at least 30 mph and stable, depress the Set-Acc button. This speed will be maintained until the brake pedal is depressed, the system is turned off or a new speed has been set.
COMPONENTS
The following components are needed for Cruise Control to work in your truck, and are specific for Cruise Control, meaning your existing components must be replaced by similar components designed for Cruise Control:
Horn Relay (Cruise Control Horn Relay)
Vehicle Speed Sensor/Transducer (Cruise Control VSS)
These items you must aquire from a donor or from Ford:
Components / OEM Part Numbers:
Cruise Control Module (amplifier) / F59Z9D843AA
Cruise Control Servo / F8UZ9C735AA
Cruise Control Servo Cable
Vacuum Vent Valve (Brake Pedal Pressure Switch)
The following components currently in your truck must be used, but do not need to be replaced:
Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module (PSOM)
Brake-On-Off switch (BOO)
I hope this helps answer your questions. I also have the wiring diagrams and schematics for the Cruise Control system as well, and will be happy to email them to you. Just post an email address.
Take care,
-Chris
