Question Check Engine light

Hey yall!

Okay, I have a problem, I think. About 3 weeks ago my Check Engine light started coming on. It blinks. The higher my RPM's are the more it blinks and I noticed last night that while my truck was kicked into overdrive, the light came on and stayed on...until it dropped back. Then the blinking started again. It is not a rhytmemic blinking, just random. The faster I go the more it blinks. Can anybody tell me what is wrong (if anything) and what I can do about it? The truck is running as well as it ever has the past 2 weeks. So I am clueless. Any help or advice is appreciated. My truck is an '89 F-150 supercab. 302-V8. 5.0 litre.

Sounds like an O2 sensor, but you need to pull the codes and see. It's pretty simple to do in an '89.

Take care,

A blinking MIL, especially under acceleration is a good indication of poor spark. A cylinder may be missing an ignition cycle. Odds are it is a spark plug that's grounding or not providing enough of a spark or a wire or coil under-performing. Check your spark plugs and wire connections to begin with.

For a truck with your computer, a code scanner is a cheap investment to pinpoint this.

Thumbs up

Get a Code scanner. They are a cheap investment. You can get one from autozone for about 30 dollars. It works great when you have a check engine light come on.
