1993 Truck stalls
1993 Truck stalls
I have a problem. I own a 1993 Ford f150 302. When I start the truck it seems to run fine. Looking under the hood U notice a little rough idle but not bad. Then when I slightly tap the gas pedal the truck loses power and usually dies. Start it back up and dose the same thing. If you give it a full tap it keeps running. While at higher speeds it misses to point where it rocks me forward. I have now changed the following Plugs, Cap, rotors, Air filter, Air breather, and fuel Filter. What else could be the problem??
Thanks

I think you have two fuel pumps, the high pressure and the low pressure. At idle, the low pressure keeps the fuel going through, and when you hit the gas and open up the intake, the high pressure overrides the low pressure, so I would check the high pressure fuel pump before anything. I am thinking it is the one inside the gas tank. Also, could be a clogged fuel filter, or clogged fuel injectors.
The three things that come to mind right away are the TPS, the IAB and the EGR. All three could create the symptoms you describe at off-idle. Of those three, only the TPS could also have the described effect at higher rpm's. You really should perform a KOEO and KOER self test and see what codes are present.
BTW, make sure spark plug wires #7 & #8 aren't touching each other at all.
Take care,

The 93 should have just one pump. I would 1st check the fuel pressure, suspect a bad pump or regulator. Also a plugged catilitic converter could present like that.
Does it have any power loss over the road? bad mileage?

Ran a code scanner KOEO and KOER test and found about four things that pointed to the EGR Value. I was about to buy a new one but decied to check all the wires and hose. Found the problem to be a broken plastic HOSE going to the Charcoal Canister was broke. Sealed off the Canister for now and it Run fine. Dose anyone know of a place besides the dealer where I can get a new one.
jstang, I stand corrected on the fuel pumps. Good luck and I hope you get it running!
