Post 4.6L lag

When my 97 lariet 4.6 auto 3.55 ls was new, it would often chirp the tires at a redlight. Now if I hit the pedal that hard, the eng. acts like it has no fuel. In a second or two it reaches 2K & takes off ok. This started with no mods. Since I have added A K&N-superchip-Bosch +4's-& latest a Poweraid.None of these changed the lag.Overall the truck runs great except for that lag. Any ideas appreciated.

It could be the computer has a adapted to your current driving pattern. Unhook the battery and turn your lights on to reset the computer. Then the computer will relearn your driving pattern. Just a thought.

Question

did you happen to mess with the MAF sensor? OR is it dirty (such as too much oil on the K&N when you put it in) This may cause the lag you are talking about>

I don't know if this has any validity but when I replaced the brake & gas pedal on my 97 I found slack in the gas pedal linkage inside the truck at the top where the cable and linkage hook together. I took a bolt and nut and tightened them over the cable to take out the slack and it is more like instant on with the gas pedal.

Dirty injectors????

try two or three big bottles of chevron techron in a tank of chevron 93 octane. Get the techron at the chevron station not the auto parts store. It is a different formula

Do you have a superchip? I found that in my old ford truck the computer backed off the ign timing after 50,000 miles and the truck became doggy until the computer was replaced.

It could just be your tires. Did you replace the originals? Aftermarket may have better traction. I can tell a *huge* difference in the Cobra with new/old tires. New ones hook up, no squeal. Old ones spin easily with lots of squeal. Tires get harder as they age as well. The heat from driving continues the vulcanization process and the rubber gets harder.

2000 f150, The tires are 2 mo. old & stock P26570rx17 wranglers. The truck would not spin the old tires w/ 52000 on them. With 10.5" tires & LS, I'm happy with a chirp.
