Post FI50 TOPS OF FULL SIZE!

Just read consumer reports 2000 yr report on predicted reliability. The F150 ranks only behind the toycoma in reliability, and the chevy/gmc scored so badly, they coudnt fit the bar on the bar chart! The F150 scored around 25% above average on reliability, the dodge about 30% below, the chevy/gmc bottomed out at 40% below but was off the scale, so the actual numbers I dont know. Go 150!They did not predict tundra, it bieng new. Im sure it will beat our Ford eventually, but I dont really care. Man, I would not TOUCH a chevy or gmc, just based on that report alone. They are having some MAJOR problems. The one friend I know with a new one has already had an engine replacement.

Yea, I saw that too. But didn't CR put the Tundra on its best buy list replacing the F150 for the first time in years? And based upon no reliability data? It makes no sense to me!

I also saw that article. The gmc/chevy was (negative)-80% in reliability thats way WAY below reliable. Not sure why they didnt rank the tundra but in a recent article they ranked the Tundra as the most reliable Full size truck, with the f-150 coming in second. Although Im semi-dissapointed Im not suprised. Of course when a good company designs a new vehicle they would make it better or atleast equal to what is currently on the market in all aspects. This is what makes Chevy funny is because when they finally came out with their first major design change since '88, the 99 F-150 was a tad bit quicker, had the 4th door, and was more reliable. This is off a 3 year old design, which isnt old at all, but should be bettered by newer models, which is what the Tundra finally did, taking the f-150 off the top after 3 years. Im Still extremely happy with my truck and I would never change it in for any tundra, except maybe a supercharge TRD one

What are their criteria? Do they just use them as commuter vehicles and then say that the Tundra is better or do they actually use them as trucks? I wouldn't doubt that the Tundra would be better if all you do is drive around town, but I have a hard time believing that it could handle the life of any Ford work trucks.

Go test drive a Tundra. You'll wonder where the heck to put your left arm...it's that cramped inside!

Question

When did the Tundra become a "Full Size" truck? Car and Driver feels it's not quite one of the big boys?

Since the Tundra is the BIGGEST truck Toyota builds - they call it "Full Size" because it is bigger then their other Toys.

Does anyone really believe that Chevrolets are unreliable? Especially 80% behind the power curve? Please!

Yes, I really do believe the NEW chevys are unreliable, no matter what thier "power curve". They shoulda stuck with thier old engines.

Sweet99Chevy, I don't believe it either. However, I haven't seen the article so really don't know what 80% below average means.

Andrew-what do you base your information on for reliability for the "NEW" Chevy's? There will not be enough data to go on for at least a couple of years. It may turn out to be a turd(you wish), but on the other hand, it will probably have the same reliability and duribility as any of the Chevy V-8's. As many of the veterans here already know, I'm not here to put your Ford down, just to defend the Bowtie.

Whatever the case is..Consumer Reports basically slammed the new Chevy's/GMC. I was also amazed they gave it such a poor rating after only the first year.

If you go to the NHTSA web site and look at the 2000 Silverado vs the 2000 F-150 Consumer Complaints...the Silverado, with 52 complaints by far exceeds the F-150 with only 7 complaints (some are duplicated for each..but there is still a *huge* difference).

Cool

So you want to know where your left arm went?
You had to give it a the dealer to buy the overpriced Tundra.
I guess Toyota felt like they didn't need to make room for a left arm you wouldn't have after buying the truck.
BTW CR is full of it IMHO.
I've seen them even rate 2 TV's that are on complete oppisites of the reliability scale but have identical chassis and CRT's (basically the same Tv's other than cabinets)
They figured it out on cars and aome appliances but have a long way to go.
