4.2-v6 engine nosie?
My 4.2 sounds like it's about to eat somebody when it's under acceleration. It scares me. :-)

DAMN FLEXING DOOR CRACK!
Ford Engineering, reinforce the curve in the door! The cracks will stop.

O.K my V6 now at 33,554 miles; Synthetic Oil, Ford Oil Filter, K&N filter. Does not rattle or ping or diesel noises. It does tick, tick, tick but those are the injectors working. Those normal noises can not be heard from inside the cabin. When outside, beside the front I can hear a little of the engine noises (very little).
This did concern me with my new ZX2 (Vetec Engine) I went to the dealer and told them that my 22 year old V8 made less engine noises!!! They told me that the injectors make alot of noise and will make it sound like a V8 with claking valves. Now that my truck makes less noise than my 4cy ZX2, I'm not concerned about it.
But if you do have a non-Ford oil filter like Fram (not trying to start this again) your engine will rattle a bit. Mine made wierd noises when I tried a Fram. My dealer told me to put the Ford filter instead and the engine stopped making those noises.
But your best bet is to go to the DEALERSHIP! This way if their is a problem, they can spot it! And if they say it is normal, have them make a invoice, report (whatever they call it) saying that you went in to check for some engine noises. And they didn't find anything. I'm just paranoide but it could help you out in case of bad luck
I say go to the dealer because we all have different values when it comes to the amount of engine noises to be heard. And it is hard to describe and pin point in writing. Have a Ford mechanic check it out. Remember there is no shame in wanting to care for your engine.
Good luck, friend
