Wink Does my `97 have an FQR engine ??

Hey All,
Just got my new `97 longbed w/the 4.2L. Noticed the other day a decal on the valve cover saying "quality renewal". Could the dealer have actually sold me a truck with a FQR engine and not told me? How can I find out? And is there anything I can do about it? Thanks, davemcc

I am not sure what Ford Quality renewal is but if it is a recondition vehicle (previously flooded, burned, totalled, etc) IT would have to show it on the title ( at least in Texas) I am not sure about the law when it comes to disclosure but would think a dealer would have to point this out and you would have to sign off on it.

I think it might be! Is there a sticker with a build date? I would go back and ask them. I would certainly want to know this sort of information if I had purchased the truck.

I'm taking my truck in this week for some recall work -- I'll ask them then. There is no date on this sticker, just a tiny Ford symbol in the center, a couple of recycle symbols on the edges and the words Quality Renewal rounding the edges. And I KNOW I didn't knowingly sign off on anything like that!

If you read all the threads on piston slap replacement engines you'll find that if the sticker you have is on the engine it's a rebuilt engine by Ford. Somebody may have saved you the trouble of going through the engine replacement process. They probably got disgusted and traded it in. You might want to read the threads on FQR engines and reliability---Bob
