Cool computer reset question

Hello all!

I just purchased a 1997, F-150 5.4. I was wondering if the computer reset would work. I was told that it only worked for newer trucks. Also how bug is the fuel tank on these trucks?

thanks,

mike

You can reset all memorys by disconnecting battery for several minutes. Why do you wish to do this? My 2000 flareside has a 25 gal. tank Looking at the source book shows basically 2 sizes based on wheelbase, 25 and 30 gals.

I had a Bronco, that when the factory battery failed after 5 years, the shop that put the battery in did not maintain power to the computer. The result, the engine died every time I clutched it. The IAC was out of spec, but had gotten there over time.... when the computer was reset, it was too far out for the computer to handle....

Moral of story, if you have a vehicle that has not been reset in a while, you run the risk of finding out what is wrong that the computer is compensating for....

Hello

thanks for the help

the reason I want to do this is because the last owner lived in Canada. I live Idaho, USA. I was wondering if the computer reset would improve gas milage and pefomnace do to the thicker air where I live. Right now my truck gets about 11 miles to 1 gallon of fuel.

It will compensate for its new home and new driver on its own. You can make it start from scratch by removing power to the ECM for several minutes.
