Question Anyone had luck ducting the air intake?

I am sure somebody has already done this. If so, can you detail how/where you are ducting air into the filter assy? That engineer who thought of putting that itty bitty hole in the wheel well is an idiot, imo. I envision using a 4" dryer hose and ducting the air from the front but the damn headlight screws it up. Thanks for any help.

look on the left side of the main page on this site. under the technical aricles section you will find info on how to modify your air box. it takes about 30 minutes or less. it's real easy

I just did the airbox mod. Really simple. $4 piece of tin from Home Depot, $12 tin snips, $1.27 fastners, good-bye stock intake! Only hard part was cutting the tin but even that was simple enough after a little practice with the snips.

not talking about the airbox mod

not talking about the airbox mod but ducting the air from the front thru the wheel well. I don't feel that the hole in the wheelwell allows enough air in and i was looking at a way of getting forced air w/o modifing my hood.

Yep, I did it. I used a dryer vent tubing kit from my local hardware. I tie strapped the plastic square behind my billet grill and then just routed the 4" tubing up into the wheel well. Sorry, dont have any pics. Go to your local hardware store and buy that home dryer vent kit. Once you see it, you'll figure it out.

thanks Blown
Did you notice a difference? Also, did you do any cutting on the fender well? And lastly, did you route the ducting all the way to the engine compartment or just to the forward part of the well?

I did the ram air at the same time as other mods, so its hard to say. However, my sole purpose was to throw outside air at the air filter rather than it breathing from underhood air. I know its somehow contributing. Cold air is always better than warm air. I cut just a little piece at the bottom of the fenderwell to squeeze the 4" tubing up into the top of the fenderwell area. Yes, I routed the tubing all the way into that 3"or 3.5" opening in the engine compartment. Gonna see if I can get some pics up by Monday.

I know this won't do much for you guys, since it was done on a '95, but I created a pretty cool setup that still works killer to this day. I had received a K&N FIPK for Christmas, and when I was installing it, I couldn't help but think how restricted it was mounted in the old airbox location. What I did was to remove the two air intake hose assembly, slice it down the middle, making two separate tubes, swaping them, and mounted the filter down below the p/s pump, almost against the front clip. There just happens to be a large opening there that goes straight past the radiator, and to daylight out front. Ford had a rubber flap installed over it so as to direct air into the radiator, but with some creative thinking, I rearanged it so it forces air straight into the filter. Sounds hokey, I know, but I still can't believe how much stronger and faster it runs. I kid you not, my '95 4.9L 5spd, weighing in at 6000 pounds with tools, can take most 5.0 F150's. I can also out accelerate my friends 2000 4.6 F150 (supercab). Just thought I'd try and encourage you! It can work!

Take care,
-Chris
