Pulling Off Balancer
Pulling Off Balancer
I am trying to pull off my harmonic balancer from my 93 F150 Inline 6.
While doing so the only thing that happens is that I spin the entire engine over. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for all of your thoughts and advice.

Do you mean the engine is turning when you try to remove the nut/bolt that holds it on? Do you have the balancer puller? Is the truck a manual or automatic? If you have some help you can use the flywheel to stop the engine from turning if your having trouble getting the main bolt out. If it's a manual put it in low and set the emergency brake. You have to have a puller if you don't have one to remove the balancer once the bolt is removed.

Attach the socket for the crankshaft center bolt to a breaker bar, and place on the bolt, with the end of the breaker bar resting on the ground, to the drivers side of center.
Disconnect the coil.
From inside the truck, bump the starter with the key.
The bolt is now loose.
Take care,
-Chris

Thank you both for your replies, I appreciate you taking the time to help out. I got the darn nut out by placing a medium sized cats paw (pry bar) into one of the slots in the balancer and wrapped a ratchet tie down around the bumper and pry bar. It worked out pretty well. Again, thank you so much for the suggestions, take care.
