You also have to remember that the light isn't reset until the truck is turned off, so if you have like 5 gallons left, and you're driving around town, with the fuel sloshing, it may trip that sensor early. Whereas if you are cruising down the interstate on level roads, it may take much longer for the light to come on. This may be the standard with which ford claims 1/16 of a tank of fuel remaining. Just doing my part to further complicate thing

I have drove mine 37 miles with the light on and was nervous in traffic. It was way below E. Most miles on a tank though 309 miles

michael_hovis, I never know that would happen...I've always ran my cars, bikes...what ever it may be as low as possible so that way I know If there is anything in the bottum of the tank it won't stay there...but it could work out for the worst too...I could get the trash in the bottum of the tank and clog things up. If I have been the only owner then I run it dry as possible....but on my Truck I'll go until the light come on then full up. SO you say it will hurt the fuel pump???? I never thought about that before. Thanks for the info michael_hovis, feed for thought forsure.

I think it will keep going without fuel?i have a gas tank at my restaurant mainly for boats to fill up coming off of SARDIS LAKE.but there have been times ill run it with the needle past the E for close to 100 miles. My lightning has a 25 gallon tank on it and the most i have put in it is 27.5 gallons.i dont know how i think i am going to make a new topic about this also but maybe it will run on the fumes.
