I'll copy this from the answer to BLU98 in the trans section.
BLU98,
Your truck does use the speedo gear to correct the speedometer (both 97 and 98).
Heres a calculator that should help you out.

Blu 98 needed the 21 tooth with his set up. You can put in your final drive ratio and the tire size in inches. If you need the 23 tooth, then you can get it from Mustangs unlimited. That is the tallest tooth size available for our trucks. I am running 23 tooth with 410's and approx 30 inch tires and it is perfect.
You probably already know this but order the gear for the 98 4r70w, otherwise they will say you need a chip reburn.
