Anti-freeze leaking
Yes I've read most all the post on this thing, but I've still have not heard a good reason why the timing chain cover had to be replaced and/or modified. I've had Ford do the timing cover fix and my 97 F150 4.2 V6 5spd, is still leaking anti-freeze some place. The dealer here is looking into it as we speak. But I'd like to know if there is a real reason this is leaking???? I've also read something about the head gasket leaking. Has anyone get theres fixed and know why it went bad??? My truck as got only 54,000 miles on it, and I think the head gasket should not be bad with low miles as this. HELP!!! No it has never been hot from day one that I've had it, now what the other ower did I do not. (it had 40,000 on it)
PS The Chevy Astro Van I traded for this Ford never had a problem in over 2,400,000.
Except for towing my trailer W/two bike the trany was going south when I traded it off.
1st time ford buyer, now I'm asking myself WHY. And no bashing please.

I agree a head gasket should not blow so soon! Ford is certainly having some quality control issues right now..many other members with replacement FQR engines are heading back in for repairs with barely a thousand miles on them. Thanks for the post on the leaking coolant problem..I have a couple of friends at work who own the V6 version..and I'll pass this on.
Ford is trying....but if you are one of the unfortunate owners..it really bites! When I found the roof cracks on my 98 supercab F-150 I was not very happy...but the truck ran like a champ and never made so much as a noise or chatter.

OK seeing how no one reply to my message I will.
I found out on Wednesday 3/8/00 that I have a head gasket blown on #3 pisten, (Dame I'm good at guessing), anyway...Ford will NOT stand behind your product and fix there problems so it looks like the warrenty (Easy Care) I bought will come in very handy, they are paying 2grand and I'm paying the 2hundred deductible, plus I got a rent a car for week on the warrenty too. I called the 1-800 number that Ford give me and the rep asked me what was I bitching about...I had a warrenty, I said that we better stop this conversation before I jurk a knot in his butt, he did give me his first name but not his last, he did give me his ID # thou, now all I need is MORE PPL to reply to this problem so Ford will stand behind there product. I also found out that IF PPL do not take it to the Ford dealer then they (Ford) will not know if there is a problem or not, so it looks like Ford is going to WIN here, cause if not for my ext. warrenty I bought with the truck, I (most likely) would have taken it to a outside mechanic, and ford would have NOT heard about it at all....so the bottum line is take it to the dealer so it can be documented and Ford gets the BIG money on something they should have taken care of in the first place. (I think)..but they could care less on what I think!! or so it seem to me!! I hope and pray that this will help us all out in getting Ford to stand behind there product they sell new or used. No way should a headgasket blow with less then 54thou on it with normal useage!!

P.S. You can bet the next time I buy anything I'll be checking the PC for anything and everthing I can before making my next buy on any brand. (food for thought) *S*
