Ok motorheads, I need some help. I had my 5.4 in my expedition replaced this week. It is a new 2000 motor. Not a remanufactured. Good job with the install, other than taking forever and making my ac not work. The guy in parts that ordered the motor for me, said that it is a 2000 motor, but built on 1997 specs.

This is where I get lost. I think that it would be stupid to build a new motor and not include any and all updates for yr 2000. If it was indeed a yr 2000 motor, it would have 265 HP and not 235 HP. Right?????

so the question is, how can I tell (other than a dyno) what the HP on this motor might be? Serial number translation, or phone call to Ford? I think that it came from Atlanta. I do know that the intake looks a lot different than before.

If anyone can help me on this, I would appreciate it.

PS My truck had 59000 miles on it when the motor was replaced. I bought the extended warranty for 495 and they replaced it under that agreement. A savings of about 4000. I seen the invoice for the motor and it was 3800.

 

I would think the reason for building the motor to 1997 specs would be the OBD version. It changed recently and the 1997 may not have the necessary sensors, wiring or computer program for the latest version. In order to bring it up to 2000 standards they would probably have to replace your wiring harness and computer.
