2003 Trucks!!!
Hey all,
I don't know how much longer I can wait, I am getting the new truck bug! I wanted to know if anyone can confirm that the f-150's are changing in 2003? If so, any pics at all? My dillema is that when I bought my '98, they changed them the next year, and that sucked, so I don't want to buy a 2002 if they are going to change next year! Any help would be appricaiated...
Thanks,
Chris

All I know is that they are supposed to come out with a Diesel for the F150.
I don't know about style changes, but I am really interested in a Diesel in a standard 1/2 ton truck. I dont' pull much but I do use my truck alot.
I figure a diesel in our sized truck should get between 25-30 mpg. It should have torque from H*LL.
My 4.6 really peters out going up hills. I always have to drop it down a gear.

* An all new 5.4L 3V engine will be used in the F-Series and Expedition replacing the 5.4L 2V engine.
* An all new 5R100W automatic transmission will replace the 4R100. (This 5-speed automatic transmission will be able to handle 500ft lbs of torque, and will be available with the 5.4L and 4.5L diesel! )
* Ford will upgrade the 4R75W to the 4R70W for 5.4L 3V powered F-150's and Expeditions.
* An all new 4.5L Navistar diesel will appear.
* An all new R4 manual transmission is scheduled; however, engineering problems might cause its delay or cancellation.
Power increases:
4.2L V6 will utilize mechanical returnless fuel system. 210hp, 260ft-lbs. torque
4.6L 2V will carry forward from U222 with 240hp, 295ft-lbs. torque, IAFM mechanical returnless fuel system. This engine will be shared between the F150 and Expedition only.
5.4L 3V will feature VCT, dual spark plugs, IAFM, ETC with torque based shift, electronic returnless fuel system. 305-325hp, 365-385ft-lbs. torque. It will be mated to a 4R75W when used in the Expedition and to a 4R75W or a 5R100W when used in an F150.
5.4L 3V bi-fuel is another new engine with the same modifications as the 5.4L 3V but can be used with leaded fuel, NGV as required. It will be mated to a 4R75W transmission when used in an Expedition and either a 4R75W or 5R100W when used in an F150.
5.4L 4V will be modified for increased output. Horsepower will jump to 325 and 355ft-lbs. of torque. It will only be used in the Navagator and Blackwood and will feature ETC with torque based shifting, electronic returnless fuel system and a 5R100W transmission.

And if that's not enough........
I was at the dealer the other day and the Roush rep had just left. From what they were told, we will be able to pick any F-150 options, colors, etc and order it with the Rousch Stage III blower package!
From what they were told, they expect the Roush trucks to have output close to the current Lightning! I hope this means that the L raises the bar with the Eaton blower package.
Unless something changes, it's gonna be a real crappy year for GM.

i don't see why they don't just go to the 32 valve system that the navigators use.they allready have em in production.seems like they could've saved alot of money by not havin to test the 3 valve system, cause i'm sure that after a few years they'll put the 4 valve in f-150's.i'm not complaining though,300 horses out of a 5.4 sounds pretty good.almost enough for me to trade my truck in when they come out.
I have to agree with Psyco, it's as if they are stringing you along thinking everyone's going to say "Gee I have to have the 3V 5.4L." Then three years from now they'll introduce the all new 4V 5.4L think everyone will run out and trade their 3V 5.4L for the new one! I guess with some people, they may be right. Unfortunately, Ford has almost priced their trucks out of my reach as it is. I'd love one of the 2003 V6 Diesels, especially a 4X4, but I'm betting the cost of that engine/transmission combo with increase the price by $5K! I'll probably drive my '99 till it won't drive no more!
Only pics i've seen are of the 2003 Expy - and it's in for a pretty major change. Take the 02 Exploder, stretch it out bit, and you have the expy - the nose is a bit different, but sides and tail are nearly the same.
I think the expy looks good now, but this picture (released by Ford) was mediocre. I would hope that the F150 does not adopt the same front end that was on this Expy...
