Lightbulb what if...

I have a '99 F-150 4.2L s/c auto and just wondered if my motor went up in smoke, could I drop a Lighting in its place? Could this be done with factory tranny? What would all need to be changed? Sorry if seems like a stupid question, but letting my mind wonder today besides working.

I think the motor would drop right in, w/ probably the same mounts. The Lighnings have the 4R100 tranny, where you probably have the other one (4R100 more heavy duty). Lightinings are lower to provide better handling & have lower gears that you (they have the 3.73s).

Cool

Probably a different rear end too. You probably only have the 8.8, while I'm sure the Lightning would have the 9.75?

Oh yeah, you'd probably have to get the "L's" computer too.
