Question Who would buy a Ford?

Don't want to offend anyone but, after looking at the threads in the Engine's Forum I wonder how any potential truck buyer would feel about buying a Ford. I know this Forum would have scared me.

I'm not going to ask anyone who's truck flawless to state so here, that would be pointless(and a long thread). And how many trucks are without troubles is not important to someone with piston slap, oil leaks or blown head gaskets, each individual is really only concerned with one truck, the one they're making payments on.

The one I'm paying for is flawless, manufactured 3/23/99 and 15,800 miles. That doesn't mean I won't wake up tomorrow to piston slap or oil in the driveway.
(If I do I'll sure modify this post!)

Wishing all of you with these engine troubles through no fault of your own, resolution to your satisfaction.

(Except you Neal, we know what you've been up to.)

Not only the engine problems (slap, oil leak and rough idle)....I am very concerned about the door crack problem. This should have been fixed by now! It's obvious that FORD knows this...because the 2001 F-150 supercrew has a redesigned door!

This is my second F-150...and I would buy another one without hesitation. Not because I only like Fords, but it is a solid, well built truck.

I have 8000 miles on my truck and the only problems I have had have been self inflicted .But it runs great now and I'm very pleased with my truck.

I don't think anybody thinks their truck is flawless at least if they are as picky as I am.

I would buy a Ford no matter what as this truck is my 6th Ford. And the only thing I had that wasn't a true Ford was my first car a 69 Lincoln Mark 3.

Ordered mine sight unseen and never took a test drive or asked for any opinions just 'cause I KNOW Ford makes a good pickup. This is my fourth: had a '63, a '68, and a '92. 'NUFF SAID.

Well, this is my second Ford truck. My first a Ranger was great and I put 160K on it. My F-150, which only has 2000 miles on it has a serious vibration problem at idle. The dealer has told me they are all like that etc. I have had it back three times, and this most recent time having picked it up today the vibration is worse. Also, I am not the only one as you will find plenty of others on this website who have the same issue. I like the truck in every way except the rough idle, and I am considering invoking my states lemon law if they can't get it fixed. I am pretty disgusted with Ford right now!

I am looking to buy my first car here soon, as you may have seen in my posts. I was at first very scared about the door crack & have seen lots of posts about engine problems but I haven't read most of them yet. I guess I am still planning on getting an F150 for several reasons.

One because I will be leasing so if something does go wrong it will be under warranty the entire time that I have it.

Two because of all the problems I have seen posted it looks like most of them have been fixed for the 2000 model year (or maybe the trucks are just too new to notice problems yet.)

And three this is the big one. There are about 4000 members on this board not all of them are having problems. The F150 is like the best selling pickup on the market from what I understand. I sit & look out the window @ work everyday & I swear I see a couple hundred of these things driving down the street. They are everywhere, if they weren't good trucks you wouldn't see that many of them. Also out of all the people on this board complaining about problems, how many would take a different truck if given the chance?

OH & also when was the last time you bought a car & didn't have one problem or another?

Just be glad we don't have hover cars yet. You'd be hovering 3 miles above the ground & the engine goes out. oops.

I've rambled enough now.

I think you can find fault in anything. The key is that with F150 owners, we seem to stick together, work out the probs and find solutions to ones that Ford has not. This is my 2nd F150, first was a '97. I never had any mjor probs with it, nor do I with this one. I think most of the issues come about with the major changes that Ford has made and since this is the 3rd year out, most have been resolved. Okay...*whew*...off my soapbox now. Sorry, but I love my pickup!

Cool

I have owned Fords since 1980. I've had problems of one sort or another but not any that would turn me away from Fords.
For the first time in my life, last year, I had a chance to buy a vehicle that I wanted, not one that was practical for the family.
My wife wanted me to buy a Jaguar.
My son wanted me to buy a BMW.
My daughter wanted anything convertible.
I almost bought a Mallett Corvette.
What did I buy? A brand new beautiful gold 1999 F-150!! Why? Because that's what I have lusted after since the re-design.
I'm very glad I don't have any of the problems some of the other members have.
Bottom line? All cars have problems. I like Fords and I will keep buying Fords. Problems or no problems.
FORDS RULE!!

Ok, I'm off my soapbox.

Cool

I would buy a another ford truck. We have all the current manufactuers models in the grove 12 hrs a day with the fords the only truck you can count on. So in the real world ford makes a great product. Ch*** trucks hardly handle street driving...Do*** trucks excellent in the beginning, yet only last 70,000 grove miles then must trade or pay the price. My personel truck has door cracking , pitman arm noise , musty a/c sometimes, average brakes... I love It and so do most people that see it..I think most dealers and shops just don't care about your vehical like you do. This came about from uneducated consumers and high turn over vehicals..Now people keep their vehicals longer and expect more. They will have to catch up!!! ..Capt.

I would buy another. Why? I love the truck. I have no problems. Even if I had problems, I wouldnt go to Chevy or Dodge, just trade it in for another.

I have driven Ford for years everything from the E250 work vans with the 5.4, never had any problems with any.You have to remember Ford sells close to 800000 F series trucks a year some have problems some don't I know a lot of people who drive Fords and none of them have had problems,I think they are few and far between considering the amount of trucks sold.

I have driven a Ford for the last 16 years except for one Chevy (I didn't realize "like a rock" meant it would be setting on the side of the road dead like a rock). Sent me running back to Ford and I'll never buy anything else. I think all manufactures have their problems, so I'll take mine with the blue oval (bo-ties are for geeks anyway, definately not for country boys, just my opinion).

You're kidding right? Except for color and Flairside, I have the exact same truck as you and I get compliments and stares nearly everyday. Except for die-hard, Dale Earnhardt butt kissing chevy fans, all of the comments I hear are positive for the F-150.

To mod or not to mod....that is the question!
