Who would buy a Ford?
I'm extremely impressed with my Ford F-150.... this is my first truck ever. I'm very proud to drive around, knowing it's a Ford and showing off the great track record they've had over the past 20 plus years.
I've shopped around and tried to research all makes of trucks and the Ford F-150 was by far the best choice for me!

J.J- not kidding..
and that is precisely the problem. They look great but so did my first wife when I married her. Love is blind. I truly believe Ford is not building these late model (97+) pick up's for the long haul. They have made them look appealingly "urban" and they have been built for 5 year throw away trucks.
I have nothing but good things to say about the earlier model trucks but I've had nothing but problems with the two late models I've had.
Sorry to rain on anyones' parade (including my own) but I'm just not impressed with the durability/dependability of the newer F150's

Dondo7,
If you think the F-150's durability/dependability is bad...look at the rest! The 99/00 Silverado's/GMC are already on the list of NOT RELIABLE. Dodge has never been reliable. I am sure the Tundra will do well though.
Since no one has had a 97+ F-150 beyond 5 years...no one knows for sure..but I seriously doubt these are "throw away" trucks. Unlike you, I have not had any problems with either of the two late model F-150s I have owned..except 98: slight paint cracking in roof water channels in the roof..minor to me)...that's it!
I *am* not very happy with the potential door crack problem I might encounter in a few years. FORD, I am sure, will make every effort to fix it. Other than that...**GREAT TRUCK**. If I am proven wrong in the future...I'll sell it and buy a Tundra.

30K miles and durability and dependability isn't yet a problem. Although I haven't tested the drivetrain through its paces for I haven't towed anything, I did put alot of stress on the body and frame through overloads. It hasn't given me any trouble except on the defective airconditioner (fixed now), and the low MPG's (16 is low for a V-6).

I must be lucky, Raoul, but I had no problems whatsoever with my two latest F-150s other than two recalls on the early one ('98).
If I had a '97 4.2, I'd be sure to have the latest (third generation) "engine cover" (head) gasket, part no. YF2Z-6020-AA installed, at Ford's expense. But other than that, I've read nothing here on this site or elsewhere that makes me worry about long-term durability of the 6 or small V-8. And they seem to have fixed the 5.4 also for those few (and I mean few, percentage wise) who had problems.
Ya, I know, the company seems slow, and is slow, to fix things. But they do. Just drive the competition and talk to their owners. You'll come back.

Add-ons: Older Windstar driver's side wiper blade (with the air scoop, because I don't slow down when it rains), back-up beeper, "f150online.com" sticker and snazzy Tweetie Bird floor mats.
My third F-series: '73 F-100, '98 F-150 and '00 F-150. Great trucks!

Hi guys,
I am also a Ford man, I've had a 79 Bronco that I could'nt kill if I wanted too, I drove it for a 600 mi with a blown piston rod, after that I swore to always buy Fords again. I Bought a 97 F150, had transmission problems along with a few other little ones, but I traded it in and got a 99 and I love it. So a word of advice to the skeptical ones, All new cars have problems, I checked out all of the competition and Ford is the Best built, nicest looking truck out there!!

Dondo7,
I'm sorry if you have had problems but I have to disagree with you about these trucks being throw away. I have a friend who bought one in early 1996 when they first came out and has put more than 200,000 miles on it. He has had only one problem with it, a dead alternator. He runs a delivery service in Milwaukee Wi. so almost all of the miles are hard city miles driven in a varied climate. Temps range from -20 in the winter to 90 or higher in the summer. The truck is running strong and he has no plans to replace it. It has more than paid for itself.

No human built or born thing is perfect, on that note the only truck I would ever buy is A FORD!! We all could trade Ch***, Do*** and FORD stories all day long, good and bad. We all cast A vote every time you me or anyone else buys A new truck. And for the last 23 years or so in A row FORD has recived more votes than the others. For that reason alone anybody looking for A new truck should consider the mighty blue oval.Gas prices aside there is no better ride to have!!! Just my 2cents........................................ 2000 F-150 super cab 4x4 with O.R.P. in Island Blue, 5.4 (Turns A hole lot of heads!)
Love my Ford Truck. Purchased new in June 98. Current odometer reading is 57,000 miles with absolutely NO problems. Will probably still be driving it at 200,000 miles. Only been back to the dealership once for tire balance. I've never owned any brand vehicle this close to perfect. Not even the Acuras we have owned in the past.

Love the trucks looks inside and out. Definately safe.... Drive is very nice, with good tires even better! DEPENDABILITY SUX!
My toyota's, although aesthetically unpleasing with a cheap plasticy feel, I NEVER had a problem...My 1987 Toyota 4X2 went 125K without missing a beat! Wrecked it once, flipped it into a swamp and filled it with swamp water another time.... Not a problem! Just hose off the swamp poop, put gas in it, a little fresh oil occasionally and off you go... They look bad, run great!

All I can say is come to my Town. I think there are 3-4 cheavys here, The rest are ford. There is of coarse one paved road. The sand storms blow 50-70 mph sometimes. The rocks are as big as a truck. Desert life at its finest and fords hold up pretty well out here. Yeah my truck is new, less then 3 months and 6000 miles on it. It has at least 50 minor scratchs from mesquite bushes, gravel ****** and other assorted stuff I have run it over But its still going,,and so are the ones that are 10 years old,,and 20 years old out here.
