I have an '85 F-150 with a I-6 300 CDI, It has a carb on it, I have been given the power for the injected model, but I want to know what the power and torque is for mine. I also want to know what I can do to get more power without ever taking the engine out?

 

Well I don't know about the power #'s for your truck but to get more power just do the normal stuff. Air filter, bigger carb, intake manifold, headers, heads, cams, etc. The list goes on. Just try doing the easy things. Exhaust, and intake. Maybe even replace the spark plugs, wires, distributor etc.. The little things can sometimes add up to a big difference.

If memory serves me correct, 85's were EFI'.d But, your in luck. You don't have sensors and Speed density to worry about. Changing to a hipo cam and even a larger Carb is a starting way to go. I read somewhere about a 4-barrel intake manifold that allows for a 4-barrel.

 

I had an '85 F150 w/ I-6 too. Mine also had a carb and not EFI. You can get a Offenhauser (spelling) intake that is a 4 bbl, if you do this you need a 390cfm Holley. Any bigger than a 390cfm is WAY too big and it wont run right. You can try a 500cfm Edelbrock, but you'll need a fuel pressure regulator. I've read that the 4bbl conversion gives 50 extra hp. A cam cost around $100 or so, but takes for ever to install since you have to remove the entire front end almost. If you are going to put an intake go ahead and put headers since you have to almost remove the exhaust manifold to get the intake off. You can cut the cats off and put a muffler on it. I had plugs, K&N, and flowmasters w/ no cats on my truck.

 

Horsepower : 120 @ 3400 RPM
Torque : 229 @ 1400 RPM
