Well, I decided to try taking out the stock silencer in the elbow between the T.B. and the air box. Took it all apart only to find out my 00' didn't have this. I figured the California model would definitely have it but it didn't. Oh-well. Maybe I'll just save my money then until I can get the WMS V.T.

Thanks for the help all,
Bones

I think it's in there. It s hard to discern it from the rest of the air tube. It looks like one piece but it is actually double walled. Its a booger to get out but can be done. If the innner diameter is noticably smaller than the outer dimentions of the air tube then it is still in there.

Cool

Get me some air?

Did any of you try some sort of ram air system? I did one on my ZX2 (cut the 1.5" cone into a 4" opening, put a 4" diameter aluminium dryer hose between it and the front grill). I noticed a difference at higher speeds. What I'm thinking of is about the same thing, only I want to use one of my fog light opnenings. Since the air will be coming in fast, it should be cooler. And the thought of ram air sounds neat.

It's just a thought for now. Any sujestions before I take out my saw?

I'd be willing to bet the Ford computers use some sort of Flash memory. You know, the non-volatile kind that can last for 10 years on no power? Doubt pulling the battery cable would have any affect except maybe the radio clock.

The actual code that "runs" the truck is stored in some kind of EPROM. It will not go away unless erased by someone (dealer) with special equipment.

However, the computer "learns" your driving habits and adjusts performance to fit those habits. It also stores info about the environment, error codes, and a ton of other stuff. All this info is stored in volatile memory.

Mods cause some of these stored parameter values to change. We can either wait and let the ECU "learn" and adjust to these changes or we can force it to forget what it knew and start fresh. It's kind of like "rebooting" a PC. It may not be necessary to get a program out of memory, but it makes me feel better to know for sure that it is gone.

CPHILIP,

Nothing at all in there. It is just one big smooth elbow. I can't figure it out. I would surely think a Cali. model would be extremely restricted but it doesn't seem to be. Oh-well.

That smooth "inner" tube IS the silencer. Note that the inside doesn't feel like the outside looks.

I think I will not do that RAM air thing as I said earlier. How dumb of me, I have a 4x4 and want to be able to use it off-road sometimes. I kept my stock setup with a k&n filtercharger.

Opening up the stock air box helps tremendously. I put on a three inch fresh air kit (PVC) and what a difference. If you would like to know how to do it look up some of the older threads under airbox mods. If you cant find one let me know and I will tell you how if you want to know. Also look under fresh air. I know there are some there somewhere.

Read "Air intake question" on the second page of this topic if you want to know what I did.
