Thumbs up Sold on Velocity Tube

Just thought I would give a thumbs up to WMS Racing on their Velocity Tube. I just installed mine last weekend, and it was like the "icing on the cake" I had done the Chip, Exhaust, and K & N filter prior to buying the Tube. I was a little skepticle, but after the install (very easy) I'm sold. My little 4.6 rockets off the line, and pulls after shifts real hard. I can't keep my foot out of it, this is so much fun!!

Thanks to the folks on this great message board for turning me on to some of the mods I have installed. This is a fantastic resource.

Dont take this wrong but you are saying that the tube made a big difference? You make it sound like the tube did all that. I am intrested in the tube but i am not sure how much it would help. I have removed the piece of plastic in my tube i want to wait to see if some one dynos before and after install of tube .

Steve G

I have to agree with SteveE55, I really felt a tremendous difference after I installed the Velocity Tube. It was in fact my first mod, so the truck was stock (aside from the K&N Filter) when I installed it. My next mod was the Gibson Cat Back exhaust, after which I could not tell any noticible difference, other than the sound! My last mod was the Superchips Flip Chip, which I've been running on primarily regular gas due to the price, but the improvement to the transmission alone was worth the money!

So, for seat of the pants difference, I would do the Chip and Tube again, but would probably opt to just change the muffler to changing the entire exhaust system next time!

I hope this helps!

ad4X4ofrd: The price is $89.00 plus shipping, and if you look at the thread on the WMS Velocity Tube Group buy, Reg54 has a picture posted and a link to their site. And, if I remember correctly, they were offering a discount to members of F-150 Online is you ordered before the end of Feb! Check that link to be sure!

I would have to say that the Superchip made the most improvement in performance (my first mod). The Gibson exhaust sounds great and helps in the upper revs, but I think I may have lost a little low end power after I installed it. With the install of the Velocity Tube, my truck seems to have the same low end I remember right after doing the Superchip, plus it revs freely. This is just seat of the pants, I have not timed it or run it on a dyno. My guess is that the intake on these engines is just a little restrictive, and the Tube helps free things up a little. I think you could fab your own setup pretty easily if you were inclined to, and it would work the same. Just don't expect too much from any of the "bolt on horsepower" solutions. I do think my truck would walk away from a stocker though.

Unhappy

Well............ i called wms i spoke to Namala i asked him if he or wms had done any dyno testing on it. he said" the dyno that is in their area does not work with automatics trans so no they have no spec on increase, he did say that they tested one of their customrs truck's a 97 4.6 with a g-tech and it knocked off a half sec 0-60 times. He was not sure if the truck was stock or not???? As for the finish of the tube they where looking into that.

I asked him how thei tube was better than a fipk system and he said that it draws cold air instead of hot air into the motor.

I doubt that i will be spending any money with their tube, maybe if they can get some go spec on increase i will consider it, but not before than ,

To thoses who have them: This is not a knock against you if you like them great i am posting this info because i think that it is not worth the money if they cant prove what they are claiming, ie more power and torque and better mpg that was from the guy that i spoke to . If any body has taken their truck to a dyno let me know i would be intrested in what you find out.

Question, if those tubes can increase HP and get better MPG, why didn't Ford just put this stock? Wouldn't it be cheaper than those pipes with "thingys" inside? Or did Ford go with their setup only for noise control. I didn't read up on this subject but I will see what features they are selling...

Not putting it down, actually I would like to get one myself

Fast are you going to put thermal tape, I'm thinking about wrapping my stock tube with thermal tape to help prevent the intake air to get too hot. This mod is really cheap and is easy to remove if it doesn't work.

thanks

Two comments.

Steve g, how reliable do you assume the claims are as to performance for the K&N or the Airaid? If I am not mistaken, in each case we have left it up to the manufacturer to test performance enhancements. I am not advertising for the WMS velocity tube per se, but in many cases do we not rely on other F150online members to relay their impressions of their mods?

4byford. Let's face it, OEM parts are used for a variety of reasons, only one of which is performance. Moreover, the definition of performance is drastically different between the members of this site and the manufacturer. Witness the experience with the Superchip, one could state that since everyone has found the superchip to improve shifting, why wouldn't Ford do the same? The simple reason is that people on this site judge performance with different criteria than Ford. Ford wants to appeal to people that want to drive a truck that feels like a car. Most members of this site do not, they want crisp acceleration and shifting, two things that Ford has specifically programmed out of these trucks.
In addition, noise abatement is a big priority with Ford, much less so with members of this site. This explains why Ford does not put a Gibson or Flowmaster cat-back on each vehicle. Just because Ford doesn't do a particular "mod" as original equipment, one cannot conclude per se that said modification is not beneficial.

Just my $0.02
