4.2 FINALLY Supercharged (was not fun)
I just wanted to update everybody on my project. It did NOT go as planned.
1)The major problem was finding a belt and tensioner.
2)The next biggest obstacle was the pressure tube.On my truck it was really short with a 2"straight piece then a 45% then 2"piece then a 90% all bent out of a single 3"pipe.
3)The final problem was relocating the powersteering reservior one new bracket later I was done.
But It was DEFINITELY worth all the long nights (5 to be exact). It feels like driving a sportscar. And thats at 3/4 throttle per Mike Troyer's advice,He said not to open it up until my Superchip gets here.I cant wait.

That sounds great! If there was some way you could reproduce all the custom parts there are people on this board that would be real interested(me included)! I'd like to see the times that puppy will run now.

HotRodSix,Franks,Darin,
These are the parts that I got from Powerdyne
1)S/C PD. 6lb. satin w/straight volute 1,550
2)Elbow 90 Deg. long plastic (2) 22.00- 44.00
3)Silicone tube 3 1/2 x 2 (2) 13.00- 26.00
4)Silicone tube 3" (2) 13.00- 26.00
5)Hose flex 3 1/2 x 24" (1) 25.00
6)Crankshaft pulley (1) 24.75
These are the parts that I got elsewhere
1)24psi. fuel injectors (Jegs) and yes I had to buy an 8 pack 208.00 plus shipping
2)intake plenum gasket
3)3 8mm x 130mm bolts 9.50
4)3 8mm x 80mm bolts 6.00
5)5 rib 65inch belt Dayco 21.00
6)Spring loaded belt tensioner 65.00 (really tight spot so I had no choice in the price but they are as cheap as 15.00 but they were all too big)
7)The main bracket made from wood templates.Finished out of 1/4" steel (one piece) 208.00
8)powersteering resivoir bracket 3/16" steel 30.00
9)custom intake air box to recycle pcv air and run K&N filter with 5" water resistant intake
10)pressure pipe was free (about time)
The bracket mounts over the air conditioning using the 3 8mm x130mm bolts w/3/4" spacers.
The 4th bolt goes in the old powersteering bracket hole (front one).
This is a very strong setup and there is no vibration at all!
The pulley from Powerdyne fits perfectly in the crank pulley but we have 3 holes and the pulley has 4 so they have to be drilled (easy) I also put welds at the points where the new pulley touches the crank pulley kind of like a gear so the bolts have no stress on them. These bolts 8mm x 80mm.
Don't forget that you have to get a Superchip custom programed to control the new injectors and the mass air flow sensor.
Well sorry if this is kind of long but its hard to explain,I hope this helps.Let me know if I can help more.
Oh by the way I put 220 miles on it today,Just couldn't stop driving
and no problems.
I took tons of pictures but I don't have a scanner. If you have any ideas let me know.

happy to hear it worked out for you. So should us other 4.2L owners contact Powerdyne or have you found the name and number of the place you got the supercharger from?

ponysix8,
I got all the Powerdyne parts from Powerdyne.Just ask for sam 1-661-723-2800 and tell him Josh from North Carolina referred you.I also left out in my last post that I did not use the pulley that he sent me,he gave me the number of a performance shop that sells oversize pulleys thats what gave me about 7lbs. of boost. The one they send is 7" the one I have on my truck is 71/4" they both have the same inside diameter. So either one you choose will work.

Darin,
Do they scan them to a floppy or a disc? And i'm not sure how to get them posted on this thread. If anybody can help me I would appreciate it.
Does anybody have 0-60 times on their 4.2?I would like to compare them with my truck the way it is (no superchip and not exceeding 4500rpm's due to possible leaning out at WOT)Please list all mods. if you can. Thanks for your intrest.

Hey XanMan,
CONGRATS on your new huffer!! I can definately relate to a difficult process..and it being worth it in the end. Ive been building a street/strip car for alittle over 2 years now. Trial and error is an unfortunate but needed process...but the pride of doing yourself (and kickin a$$ with it) is well worth it!
Best of luck with your 6cyl sleeper

Well I just got off the phone with Jay at Superchips and he had bad news for me.They told me that they can't run my chip through because they don't have a baseline to start with on the fuel system for a SC 4.2liter.He said that they have to get the same truck with the same pcu punch on the dyno. And that won't be til after the first of the year.(what a drag). So I guess I have two more weeks babying it.
DirtSlinger, what kind of car are you building? And your right on the trial & error, but the rewards are worth it

god how stupid. why would you want to supercharge a 4.2 V6????? That engine sucks. You should have gotten a 5.4 and supercharged that. you either enjoy wasting your money, or your really stupid. why don't you send your money this way, instead of blowing it on a supercharger for 4.2
