XanMan:
Im building a 73 Camaro (no chevy bashing plz) with a 490c.i bigblock. Motor is being built now but I too am having ALOT of trial and error. I'm expecting around 650HP on pumpgas..then ill add a 200hp nitrous shot to that. It going to be a CA liscensed, streetlegal (using the term loosely) car. A few details are 10point cage,3speed auto, fiberglass buckets w/5 point harnesses, 28x11.5" rear tires..fronts are about 26x5", fiberglass frontend, trunk mounted aluminum fuelcell and battery...I have pics that I'd be happy to post (but this IS a FORD site). I have roughly another 6 months work to do and it should be on the street building a reputation
By the way 98F150xlt...I dont think bashing a guy is appropriate. Everyone has different visions and his concept is not a "stupid" one. Just think...if your driving that 4.6 and got spanked by another F150 and later found out it was a 6cyl. Adds to the insult doesnt it! hehe..I am a firm believer in the concept of the sleeper and think Xan is an ingenuitive guy on a mission..and thats where the BAD rides come from.

Stupid or not, this is going to be the coming thing. With the new lower emission pickups and SUVs, as discussed in another thread, owners/manufacturers will be looking for ways to squeeze out more power from the most economical engines available. The 4.2L is a good engine and I hope to see more projects for it in the future. Oh yeah, 98F150xlt4x446, take a hike. No flames in here.

98f150...Only a 4.6 with a 4X4?! You should've opted for the 5.4!

Hope everybody had a Merry Christmas,
Christmas eve was very busy for me.We got 4in. of snow locally so I just had to go four wheeling.I loaded up headed for the mountian, this was the first time since the supercharger was installed.I sure didn't lack power this time espcially in low!On the way home I pulled 4 people out of ditches the 1st. one was F150 4x2 2nd. was a chevy also a 4x2 3rd. was a volvo and this one was sitting flat on its frame (back tires off the ground )I pulled it out with no problem. The 4th. one was the best of all it was a 96 toyota 4runner it slid off a 35% or so bank I hooked up to him from a flat spot and pulled him srtaight out he looked shocked. The secret was that I had about 1200 pounds of fire wood in the back so that and the supercharger was a great combo.Ford was on top af the hill that day (all by its self)

Good job XanMan! You were Santa Claus in a black sleigh to 4 people who now truly believe in Santa and Ford! Your truck sounds cool, and it looks like you're having a lot of fun with it after all the work you put into it.
Merry Christmas, you've already have Goodwill toward your fellow Ford, chevy, volvo and toyota.

Everyone that has replied to my post--- I wasn't making that a flame. If you took it that way, i'm sorry and didn't mean it to be that. The reason why i picked the 4.6 is for gas mileage. Also.... If i was going to supercharge something, why not supercharage a 5.4?? Makes a little more sense doesn't it?? Its like buying a 4 banger ranger, and supercharging it, even though ford offers the 4.0 ohv? Does that answer your questions?? btw.... The v6 is a good engine, im not mocking it or putting it down in anyway. of course it gets better gas mileage, thats why people buy a 4.2 engine instead of a 5.4 or 4.6. it just doesn't make any sense to me why someone would supercharge an engine that gets "good" gas mileage. again... this isn't a flame. also... this is the only message board i post on. there must be someone else with a name like mine. have a nice new years
98F150,
I modify almost everything that I get.I do it for the challenge.I do have a budget and my truck was purchased at a great price. The 5.4 made no sense to me because of the price difference. When my truck is done it will be extremely fast but thats not the point of it all, its just a hobby and with the 4.2 it is a BIG challenge to make it fast but theres lots of tricks, finding them is the most satisfying part. And its not impossible.
MRBBQMAN,
My gas mileage has gotten better so far (still no Superchip yet
) But I have seen a 1 mile per gallon increase so far.Maybe someday that will pay for all the mods. LOL

98,
I don't know what my 1/4 mile times are yet because I'm still waiting for my superchip so I can run at WOT.It won't be done for another week brobably. But I will keep you all posted on the gains.By the way I can't run at WOT because it may lean out without the new program for the fuel injectors and the MAF sensor. But the truck already pulls extremely hard starting at 2,500rpms and the down shift from 35mph. spins the tires when it's dry so looks promising so far.

A lot of folks bought the 4.2 because they couldn't afford anything better. Get off our backs, guy!
I certainly wasn't going to spring for the extra few thousand I'd have needed for the 5.4L V-8 back when I bought my 4.2...
But that's all irrelevant now... I traded my truck in on a '91 F-150 with a 302... And the "new" used truck will be paid for in about 1/2 the time it would have taken to pay for the the 4.2 truck... And it'll take nicely to a supercharger... It's all in the bottom line, and folks have reasons for why they do the things they do that you may not understand.

, really the same claim as the "superchip"
