Post sticking thorttle

Just wondering if anyone had any problem with their thorttle sticking on the 4.6 engine?

I have stepped down on the gas pedal to pass and it had stuck. I really had to kick it hard to get it to return.

I have a 1997 F150 with the 4.6 engine,4x4 with 14000 miles on it.

I would appreciate any thougts on the problem.

Cool

This happened to me once last week. The truck sat outside all day in single digit temp's. Not sure if it froze or what. If it happens again it will certainly make a visit to the dealer.

Have you tried to clean and lube the exposed portion of the cable? I would also clean the throttle body at the same time. This would most likley be the same course of action that the dealer would take, and it will save the hassle of going there. If that does not work then have the dealer give it a try.

Bob is right.

One other thing is if you are in an extreemly cold climate: did you have the foam insert put in to prevent TB freeze up? This was covered on a recall for 97's.

Recall # 98R01- PCV Foam Insulation Sleeve.
In some areas without this fix your throttle body will freeze up. Call your dealer and ask about it.

Had the same problem on my '99 F150 with 4.6. Had dealer look at it. They said that they could find no problem. If it happens again someone is getting an ear full.

Do you have floor mats? Especially after market mats? If so, chances are the bottom of your pedal is getting stuck on the mat. It's a common enough problem that if you have a Lariat, the mats are held in place with a little hook in the floor.

Move your floor mat back. It's too far forward and the pedal is getting stuck on it.

Steve,

Definitely not fixed with the 2000s. Happened to my wife the other night. Been pretty chilly here in Mass lately.

Steve,

3.73s are standard with the 7700# package (basically just the old F250 light duty with a different badge). LS was optional.

Throttle getting stuck happened to me too. And guess what it wasn't cold out more like 70 degrees. So throw that on the burner.

Gmptj,
Your profile says you have 373's are you sure because i have a 2000 also and they no longer offer 373's 3.55's only with the 5.4
I wanted 373's i would have had to get a 99.
are they after market???

Cool

I had my truck at the dealer last week and had them check this. They ordered a new throttle body. Not sure if they are just throwing parts at it or what, but it's worse since they looked at it. Hopefully the new part will be here soon.
