Right on, Ford man. You can come to my BBQ anytime.

Idea is to help each other, share hints, experiences. To work together, enjoy the trucks.

Hell, if this site was dedicated to women, guaranteed we'd have some lad claiming his lady had bigger this or better that (sorry, Tina).

a V8 is the only way to go you have the power when you need plus you can smoke the tires alot better with a V8.

All right Here I go, hence my name, I had the '97 V-6 XLT, Now I have the '98 4.6 V-8 XLT and I noticed a difference. Both have the 3.55 Limited slip. all options the same except the V-8 has the tow pkg.(even if I never tow anything, I like the trans. cooler) I like the 4.6 better! But thats cuz of my job, at the end of the day where some trucks would come home empty, mine comes home full. And I WANT TO GET HOME YESTERDAY! I was happy with my V-6, but I'm happier with my V-8. My advice? do what tina said then buy what you can afford. It's no fun having a truck with no cash left over for stuff! Stuff being defined as the following: Beer, Gas, Beer, Mods, Beer, Insurance, Beer, House payment, Beer, fishing pole ect. You get the idea, Good luck All

Man you guys need to go buy a Mustang or something. I got my 150 to pull a 3500 lb. travel trailer because the Explorer (94 XLT 4.0 160 hp)just didn't cut it. I found a used Lariat with the 5.4 loaded, leather ect., for 20k. Man was I suprised when my friends 97 XL V-6 pulled the trailer straight up these Utah mountains with no problem. I love my truck, but dont under-estimated the V-6. I was stunned.

Did you know that the V-6 comes with "turbo power"? Sure, just turn off the air-conditioning and watch how much faster she goes! He! He! He!

hey hitmanhite i have a mustang gt and its fast the bad thing about it its a magnet for cop cars so that is why i am getting a truck with a V8 it still should be fast enough and maybe the cops will leave me alone.

i have a 4.2 v6 with a 3.08 axle. I have done some modifications and i have never lost to any other ford truck no matter what size the engine. Also i took my truck to a drag stripe and i ran a faster time than a 5.4 liter v8 by 2 tenths of a second. I am alot about the bigger they better but i just wanted to say not to count the 4.2 out cause witht he right mods it can go.

I am also curious what this superchip is people are talking about how much is it and how much more power does it give you.

Leeadam,

when ya put a superchip
on the 4.2, ya get 25hp and 31lb-ft torque. It gets better fuel economy, removes the rev limiter and top speed limiter, changes the shift points..etc.
What gears was the 5.4? just wonderin...

Tina, I beat ya just joking

fast46triton: and it's about time too

leeadam: the superchip is a chip that you put on your ford computer to reprogram it to work better. Go read the computer chip threads. This thing really works and is worth every penny paid. You wont believe the change in your truck until you get one put on.

Question

Isn't there only a few HP difference between the V6 and 4.6L ?

Yeah, about 15hp! But the torque difference is noticible.
