My 4.2 has about a two second period of cranking before the starts hot or cold. I guess I never thought of that as a possible proplem. As I count cycles, I would say I hear about 5. Is that starter revolutions, or cylender revs?. I always presumed it was cylender revs. Hmmmmm

I had this same problem until the day came that there was no start at all on a cold morning. After having it towed to the dealer they said the battery was dead. After they gave it a deep charge the truck started quickly. Fast turn over quick ignition. 1 week later same thing. This time the dealer replaced the battery and said it was week. After that no problems with slow turnover or excessive revs before starting. I can only guess that the week battery could not privide enough current for the starter and spark at the same time. The dealer indicated no other work done at that time. I would suggest trying to give your batteries a full charge then try starting your truck. If it starts strong then possibly your battery is week. Just a thought.
