race: Chevy 5.3 vs. Ford 5.4

Who would win?
my friend has a 5.3L 285HP 4x4 with single tube exhaust im getting a 5.4L 2wd with an X-pipe and dual exhaust.
Both are extended cabs regular sides. The motor trend review i saw of the vhevy vs. Ford the For had a whole second on the chevy in 0-60. But later, same mmagazine the chevy was rated at being .3 seconds faster than the ford, which i thought to be BS since the ford puts down about 30 more HP to the wheels. It also said that the chevy had more low-end grunt which i know to be unture since the LS-1 is a high reving engine. Anyways your thoughts and opinions off the line who would dominate?

It's tough to say... I've taken my share of new silverado's, but I'm sure that a few could take me on. I think ounce for ounce, the Ford would come out on top with dual exhaust.

Well, I outran a chevie last year. It wasn't an "official race or anything, just "off the line" when the light turned green. We both let off after about an eighth of a mile or so.

It was a nice spring day. A chevie comparable to mine pulled up at the light beside me. We both had our windows down and I thought about it for a second and decided to holler at him and ask him if he would care to see if Ford or chevie was fastest. He grinned, said he was curious too, and it was on.

When we let off, his front was at my rear bumper.

A mile or so leter at the next light, we stopped and he was kinda disappointed. He had a z-71 5.3 ext. cab. Very comparable to my truck.

chevie advertises more H.P. than Ford, but if they really make that much H.P. i don't think it makes it to the rear wheels.

actually i have seen dynos of both stock and the chevies are puting down about 20 to 30 hp more than the fords at the rear wheels, just at a higher rpm. the fords have the advantage off the line because of all that low end grunt but the chevies can catchup and pass pretty well before the end of first gear, (at least mine does )

not to say you guys arent really winning against chevies, early on when my truck was still relatively new to me, I was almost afraid to open it up completely due to the high revs, but once i did, it was a whole new animal especially with my 3.73:1 diff. i have shut down my fair share of fords, i actually have more chevies want to race than fords

The Chevy may well be a little bit faster than the Ford, but my 99 Silverado was in the shop well over 100 days in the 23 months I owned it, so overall when you figure in performance of the rent a cars Chevy hands out, Id say the Ford averages a *ell of a lot faster than the Chevy.

You'll eat him up to 60-70mph and he'll start to pull, but possibly wont touch you till the rev limiter.

Not that is matters, but am I the only one that has noticed atleast HALF of the new chevies have one of the front day-time running lights out? lol Again, makes no difference, just seems like the majority of them are like that. If I bought a brand new truck, I would hate to have as noticable of a problem as that!

2wd vs 4wd, i will talk the 2wd on weight savings alone.

in this particular case i would have to agree the ford has the advantage especially because of the 2wd advantage. my 99 chevy has spent no more than a few hours at a time four times, all four times for those damn window regulators that chevy claims are falling apart. oh and on the first visit they also replaced both daytime running lights because the both went out at the same time, two years now and they are still going strong. must be something wrong with the bulbes installed at the factory. my stock (lower power 99') 0-60 was @ 7.3 (reg cab short bed)

If your 5.4 is running right and both trucks are stock, I'd give you the edge because of the weight savings.

Before you run him, make sure you're almost out of gas. Hell, take off the spare tire too.

LOL! No, you are not the only one who has noticed this. and it has to be way over half of them. pretty dang pathetic when you pay 30 grand for a truck and one of the bulbs is out. (Too bad it isn't both that burn out together.) Then I wouldn't have to see those aggravating lights in the middle of the day.
