Looking for a little knowledge!!!!
I recently purchased a 99 f150 with about 30k miles!!!!It's an awesome truck with lightning wheels and in beutiful shape!!!!The only thing bothering me is the 4.2 l engine it came with!!!It came with ranch hand grill guard and it seems that maybe even this is taking away from the little power it has....Just wondering how much a new 4.6 engine would run or any other options I might consider....First truck ever and i'm already fallin in love.......Later
Well... I'll give ya a little knowledge... all I can spare!
Power is directly related to cubes. In general, while it is possible to sway engines, there are a ton of headaches, not the least of which is the wiring harness and engine control computers. Depending upon the nature of the swap, you may also have difficulty with the tranny, drive shaft and rear end.
You might want to consider performance enhancers such as a Superchip, better air filter and different exhaust. However, others know a whole pisspot more about those items than I do.

Bottom line..if you want more power, you need more cubic inches just as BeastRider has said. but the best way is to trade trucks, not engines.
Hint Hint....5.4 will kick a 4.6's butt
