I'm Bright..... Not!

OK So I take my K&N out to clean it... Soak the thing with water and it's taking forever to dry so I just say screw it and bring it in the house figuring I will oil it and throw it back in the next day. Well the next day I get a notice that they are repaving the parking lots and I have to move (Normally the f150 stays home and the beater goes to work) So I move the truck like 1/4 mile and park it jump in the other one and go to work. Well I come home tonight and the first thing I see is the filter sitting on a paper towel. I guess I could have made a long story short by just asking if starting and running the truck a short distance without an air filter would cause any damage. What do you all think?
