Plug blown out but not out?
Plug blown out but not out?
I recently bought a 98 f 150 with the triton 5.4 and the number 2 plug blew out. Didn't know it was such a common problem but looking threw all the forums I guess it is. But I broke the coil obviously and has the tale tail sound of being blown so I bought a cal van kit to put the insert in. Then looked into the hole and to my surprise the plug is still in there. I have tried to get the plug wrench on it needle nose, magnet, you name it and it just won't come out. I was thinking of maybe wetting a rag down and packing it in there in hopes that when I start it again it may have that little bit more compression it needs to blow all the way out. But any idea or answer would be awesome.
I don't know if the CalVan kit is any good, we usually recommend Timesert or Lock N Stitch. However, the CalVan reviews are decent. It may have blown before and repaired with a crappy insert such as a Helicoil, that's what may be keeping it in there.
Are you able to get the socket to seat on the plug so you can turn it or does the socket "bottom out" without engaging the plug's hex flats?
The Calvan/SnapOn kit is fine. Just have to get all of the old hardware (plug and previous insert, if any) out first.
