Need help with question!

So a few days back I turned my truck off after after driving my 18 Ford F150 (5.0 V8). When I went back to turn it on I had a small issue where it didn't seem to want to turn on the first try. I then tried a second time and it started but noticed I had the check engine light on so I took it to auto zone to read the code it indicated it was a camshaft sensor. Was told I can drive it home but to try and get the issue resolved quickly.

Fast forward to today, keep in mind I haven't drove it since, and it started once again with the check engine light on but I needed to go to the store and is my only vehicle. Upon returning I accelerated around a semi truck to pass it and when I did so I heard a sound somewhat of a pop and then felt my truck "tug" back as I looked at my dash I noticed the RPMs went low and my oil gauge went completely down in an instant and the check oil light came on. I felt panic but upon opening my window to hear noise and accelerating again to get home, since I was a few blocks from home, I noticed I didn't lose power and no noise was coming from the engine. I got home with no issue as I kept driving home.

I got home turned the truck off for a few seconds and tried to turn it on again and of course it did not start. I checked underneath and there is no oil leak and the dip stick is showing normal oil on it. I know the camshaft sensor is an issue but would that have cause this somewhat of a scary situation while I was driving?

Can anyone please tell me if they have had a similar problem or know what might be wrong. If so I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Yes, that is indicative of that issue.

I recommend getting that sensor replaced.

Hello!
Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer.
I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this concern on your F-150. Thanks!
