Solenoid or starter? Plz help 🥺

Hey guys, having kids and wife leaves you with a short budget. So I have a Ford f150 2000 and was having problems with the alternator, so I changed it. When I tried turning on my truck it did... For only 30 seconds. So when I opened the hood to see what happened, I got a burnt rubber with meat smell. So I realized that I had messed up when HOOKING UP THE STARTERS WIRE that goes from the ALTERNATOR to the SOLENOID. I put the hot wire in the wrong spot. So, now when I try turning it on... All I hear is 1 CLICK. Should I just buy a new starter or is it just the solenoid. Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thank you all and God bless.

Why not test the solenoid and starter on the bench with the 12v source?
