I've had mine for about 5 months, put it in at 2000 miles, have 12,500 now, and it's still going strong with no problems!

That depends...the box says it is good for 50,000 miles. If you live in a really dusty environment...I would clean it sooner (I did actually read *somewhere* to clean it more often it if gets really dirty).
There is a chart on the side of the box which depicts a new and used K&N filter vs a paper filter and another type. The *dirty* K&N filter, after 42,000 miles, had an efficiency just under a brand new paper filter.
Also..the filter has a 1,000,000 mile guarantee.

To reaffirm, you should have no concerns with the dealer. If you do, find a new dealer. If possible, get to know the tech.
I have had a K&N for months now, and have had nothing but fun with it!

F150Sport.
The problem with the engine light coming on was with the K&N FIPK kit, which replaces the whole intake hose, with a new hose, and a exposed filter. Just putting a K&N filter in your existing air box will not cause any problems

I've been using K&N for nearly 5 yrs with no problems. I't has helped performance on some of my vehicles but not anything to be awed about. I't flows better than paper, and it's reusable are the best things you can say about it. The power gains, if any, will be at high rpms moreso than where we drive our trucks. The Mod. motors breath pretty good from the factory,so you will probably not "feel" the difference, but it is there. More air in and out means more power.

I put 100,000 KM (60,000 miles) on the K&N I had in my 98 and the Velocity Tube was a God-send for both performance and fuel economy on it. I ordered my 2000 with them already installed!

Thanks Rand
I did your mod works great, my truck has more power now. I scewed mine in, to cold here now to glue it on, plus I was afraid it may fall off.
I cut about a 1/2 inch off the cone because the K&N filter is a little taller than the stock filter, did you do that too?
I was afraid if I did not cut some off it might restrict the air flow.
I drilled a hile at the point, and a hole in the rubber on the filter, and used a stainless steel bolt, locking nut, 2 inch fender washer, and used locktite, just to be safe.
Thanks for the tip, your the man

Thanks for all the replies.
One more question.
I plan on getting the filter and want to know where to get it for the cheapest price from a reputable company.
Thanks again!

Most places will run you about $45.00 - $49.95.
Any major auto parts store will be just fine.

I did the mod and the K&N and I love it. It sounds more throaty and I get better response. I took the top half of the air box and cut off most of the plastic leaving it open to get more air. I used a dremel tool and left the lip that is secured to the other part of the airbox with the metal clamp and left part of the plastic on the bottom of the airbox to block some of the direct engine heat and also I also left the mounting studs for the airbox in place. This way I just mounted it back in the rubber grommets and didn't have to used any glues or sealants to keep the filter on because I left the lip that joined with the other part of the airbox. I also removed the silencer from the elbow.
I like this setup a lot, it looks and runs great. I have probably put over 10k miles on it since I did this and I haven't had any problems. I still get between 15 and 17mpg too.
